Dash camera , good idea or not....?

I fitted the Nextbase 512 to my NC, partly because it has the polarised filter on the lens to eliminate the screen reflections. Dead easy.
Since then I’ve fitted the Nextbase 522 two camera kit (later more ergonomic model) to the Mazda3 (a bit of a pig with some of the trim) I recommend this over the 512, but fitting will be much the same. I did a how-to for the NC with some pics in the first link below. Other dash cams will be much the same, but be aware of possible r.f.i. on your DAB from noisy cheapo power supplies.

Over the weekend I fitted the Nextbase hardwire kit for a Nextbase 512GW Dashcam.  It was almost straightforward on the PRHT NC, and the few little niggles were easily solved with some patience and the correct tools.  [20190909_144332_d] The on-line 2008 MX5 Manual was very useful, especially to help with where the various clips are located for ease of dismantling.  I recommend familiarising yourself with the layout behind the trims by reading the relevant bits and links found in kick pan…

Hardwiring a 512GW dashcam to an NC

I’ve eventually got around to having a close look at the results, and here are some pics to show how it snaps the video on the default settings, the first one is the full image shrunk to fit here, the second is a pixel accurate clip and the third is a zoom into a segment.  Clearly the sharpness control is set too high, but this is not visible on normal viewing and the camera is generally good apart from the G-sensor being wayyyy too sensitive for an MX5 suspension.
