Well thats good to hear. Bit of a punt really as we’ve never owned a Saab before but my wife has always wanted one. We’ve bought a 2010 93 convertible with only 53000 miles on it and one lady owner from new.
Saabs are quirky, and don’t let anyone tell you it isn’t a proper Saab if it’s post the GM involvement. I had a '94 900 SE and it was one of the best cars I’ve ever had. Terrific seats. The ‘black panel’ amused me endlessly for some reason. I don’t know if that persisted into 2010 and the 9-3 convertible.
If you mean the night time dash button, then yes it has got that. I’ve heard a lot of praise on the seats and it was certainly very comfortable on the test drive. We’re looking forward to having something a bit different.
Update…Death of the Convertible
Perhaps Not ![]()
So, for health reasons I’ve had to temporarily bring Bullit down from the garage I’ve rented for her since 2019 to adjacent car park
Downside: anxiety because she was previously keyed and her soft-top slashed here plus the birds have ‘welcomed’ her back ![]()
Upside: Get to use her solar panel to re-charge the battery when sun out = less anxiety… plus less exersion as she’s now within 20 feet as opposed to about a quarter of a mile away up a slight slope
Anyway…
Putting my re-cycling out yesterday evening and this young man approaches me
‘Is that your MX-5 …wow …that is one lovely car…you must get lots of admiration from people’
After about a 15 minute chat …where I was focused on what work still needed doing and what work had been done plus the pros and cons of MX-5 ownership…[you don’t realise how much you’ve learnt from being a member and on the Forum until you talk about a love of your life] ![]()
Bless him…the lads’ eyes didn’t glaze over once
I had seen him working on a mature 1.1 Citroen something
He explained he was a 17 year old apprentice motor mechanic working on his first car and he’d just changed its’ radiator ![]()
We compared the cost of our motor insurance [3K for him and £181 fully comp for me aged 68 yrs] ![]()
which made me think of Peter James Insurance and the young drivers mentioned in the STHT Magazine
I don’t have room to keep old copies…but, is it fate
…latest edition arrived this morning and I was able to find a couple of references to young drivers aged 17 plus and Peter James advert showing consideration of same
So …guess who is gonna find my [read] copy of the mag under his windscreen wiper in a sealed plastic bag ![]()
And he’s not been the first teenager to admire Bullit …
Death of the Convertible…me finks there is hope yet for the MX-5 at least ![]()
