They were an unusual colour, more blue than green really …
Mine would be my 1973 gold Capri 2.0 GT, superb car, bought it at only two years old but had to sell it for the deposit on our first house tried to track it down but number plate not in use so assumed it went to the rust heaven.
I remember being traumatized during my formative years being ferried around in the back of a vw beetle. I most certainly don’t want to see it again as it set the foundation for my lifelong hatred of anything German.
My first car was a Beetle so I’ve always had a soft spot for them, but the rear seating isn’t exactly a luxurious environment for a small child…
My first car was a VW Beetle and scariest car I’ve ever driven in snow/ice. Without a sack of potatoes in the front it would go straight on at a bend and if it did turn the back end would come round on you and when you came to stop it would just lock up and plough on.
First proper car for me was a bright orange beetle, a 1200 basic model, blade type chrome bumpers etc. Loved it, reg KUB752L (I think)
I remember the two sparkplugs nearest the bulkhead could not be undone! Even a beetle specialist (at the time, couldn’t shift them!)
‘73/4 model purchased at 3 years old for £995. I say proper as my first car was actually a Reliant Kitten which I got as a trade for my HONDA 750 F1. Happy days.

My 2nd but best loved car was a 1967 mk2 Cortina 1500 gt Crayford convertible, bought in 1978 stolen and torched after 10 months of ownership.
Mine was GLG535B - cost me £50 in 1977…
The best car my Father had was a 1949 2 1/2 litre Riley. He sold it in 1963 as it had a noisy back axle and bought a Cortina Super. The Riley has since been restored and I went to see it about 2 years ago. I never got to drive it as he sold it just before my 17th birthday. The current owner has the original Log Book that shows my Father as the second owner. I remember the car just touching an indicated 100 mph on the newly opened M1.
I had a beige 1977 1.1 mk2. You could get it to 70 for about 15 mins before it started over heating
Apparently its still going and is red now!
Riley Elf ELR 478C
Blue with a white roof, a Mini with a walnut dashboard and a proper boot. Took me camping up and along the N & W coast of Scotland long before it became the NC500 the summer before I became a student. Warm sunny days, no traffic and not a care in the world … happy days.

My mum used to drive a stunning green ford mexico…I loved it…begged her to let me have it as my first car but it was sold to a man across the road. Worth an absolute fortune now
I also had a Beige with Chocolate brown vinyl roof (there is a colour scheme not often seen nowadays ) 1600 Ghia Mk2; wonderful car, anytime I went through a big puddle the dashboard lights would go dim and the accelerator would drop to the floor for a couple seconds,
Ah, I had similar, the first time I went through a puddle after buying the car my legs got wet and I discover a massive hole in the offside front wing where the internal skin had totally rotted away. ‘Sold as seen’ and I didn’t see it. A bit of mesh and filler did the trick
You don’t get cars like that anymore; you could fix most things with a couple of spanners, some exhaust bandage and a tube of filler; and an egg cracked in the radiator
Awesome! My dad used to have a Mexico, but it wasn’t such a vivid colour!
I bought my first brand new car in 1980, a mini ‘special’ rose metallic with a biege vinyl roof. 8 weeks later, dealer bought it back from me, worst car ever! 6 of the 8 weeks were spent off road at the workshop. Anyway, walked across the road from BL dealer to Ford dealer and purchased a 1 year old 4dr 1.3GL Escort, diamond white with Brown vinyl roof and a matching brown interior! It was a lovely car, enjoyed every minute of it!

I had one of these, not this one but this colour and age, lovely car if you didn’t mind doing head gaskets, it had a fully adjustable steering column, up/down in/out, front of the seat moved up or down. So this is probably the only car that’s fitted the Obergruppenfuhrer who masquerades as my wife perfectly. I only got it because of the cost of insurance compared to a Mexico, it was considered as an old mans car so whereas fast Fords were being nicked these weren’t…
Dad bought one of these in 1957 to replace a 100E Anglia. Not this actual car, but identical, same colour with all the same bells and whistles. I loved it and was devastated when he sold it in '59 and got a company car - a Hillman Minx…
