I was going to take mine off the road for the winter, even went out and bought a cheap run about. So parked the car in the garage and said bye bye see you in the spring. What happens next, my son bought a MK1 five, and that was it, out it came. It was off the road for a total of 3 days. Mad or what?
Mine is my only car, is parked outside on the street and gets used in all weathers.
Bought ours beginning of December. It’s a “spare” car but wife plans to drive it on a regular basis though it hasn’t moved since we bought it as it has been too cold with tooooooooooo much salt on the road. Getting really fed up reading what fun they are to drive and seeing it sat in the garage but I KNOW the weather will improve and then I will drive it like I stole it - when the wife isn’t pottering to work in it!!
Plan to keep it a while so want to keep it nice but will be a regular drive on nice days ie when it isn’t raining!
My 5 is my daily drive but its a race between the wife and I as to who gets out first in the morning to drive it, second place gets the Rover 25 diesel. It doesn’t matter how cold it is, if there’s a little bit of sun the roof is down[:)]
Hi
Ditto above, my wifes daily drive Monday to Friday, then mine week day evenings and weekends as I have company transport during the week, I brought something nice to look at and keep clean … its called a television …[:D]
only joking… as said before each to there own.
Zippy [:#]
Use mine everyday whathever the weather, and it’s not garaged. Bought the car 5 years ago
on 38k and it’s now just about to hit 114k and still drives as good as the day I bought it.
Takes a lot of work though keeping on top of it (and money) especially to keep it at ‘show’ standard.
It’ll be a second car one day … when I can afford it. [;)]
I bet it does, aslo having black I know how difficult it can be…hats off to you squire [:D]
Use mine daily for a 75 mile round trip
I have been known to have the top off in the rain as well
Ive done over 2000 miles in my 5 since i bought it at the end of october and as its my only road worthy car its been driven in rain, snow and ice. I wish i could only use it in the summer but its just not feesable
Mine lives outside and gets used more or less daily, whatever the weather throws at us. My GF and I car share, so it’s generally whichever car is at the front of the drive, but if we’ve used hers for more than two days I’m usually pestering her to swap them over! I drove mine in the snow for the first time about a week ago, and it wasn’t bad at all.
One of the reasons for choosing the MX-5 was that I wanted a fun car that was just practical enough to use daily.
Mine is garaged during the winter [:)]
And the rest of the year too [;)]
Its out on the road every day, barring any unfortunate event that stops me taking it out.
The roof is only used for keeping my head dry if its raining, otherwise its down [H]
I bought my 1991 LE last October as a second car. I had a new green mohair hood fitted a few weeks later and as yet it hasn’t seen any rain. During November I realized I had not driven it for over a month and the battery was flat. The MX5 has only done 52K and is on a classic policy limited to 3,000 miles per year, which should be plenty. I took the MX5 out last Sunday into town to give it a run. I will probably use it more once the fine weather comes.

Wow! I got mine at the end of last April and have done about 11’000 miles so far. I use mine as my daily driver (obviously[:)]) and do travel around the country a fair bit for work.
I didn’t realise quite how [ip]MUCH[ip] I would enjoy driving it when I bought it and have resigned myself to buying either a tasty little Mk1 as my weekend fun car that I can cherish and enjoy only in the dry…or, I just replace my Mk2.5 with another or a Mk3 when it finally gives up the ghost ( hopefully not for a long time yet!!)

I’ve probably covered no more than 600 miles in my 5 since i bought her last September and 250 miles of those are from trips to Stafford Mazda when i got the car last year!
I’m trying to keep the mileage down to under 1,000 a year if i can.

Yep, not touched my car for the last month, went outside today, switched the engine on, flat battery, that’s my only problem, i never use my baby so the battery is usually flat! i think i really need to give her a decent hour long run sometime
I like your idea about a Mark 1, but then i am a little biased already
Cheers

Hi
I live in a rural village in the north east of Scotland. have had 4 Mx5’s in the following order.
New MK 2.5 1.8, 1990 Eunos 1.8, New 2.0 Mk3, 1995 Mk1 1.6 MX5.
I have used all four cars every day to travel to work, sun rain and snow. The first MX5 I had came with Yokohama tyres and the first time their was a covering of snow the car was pretty much undriveable. Drove straight to my local tyre dealer and fitted winter tyres. Complete transformation from that point on the car would go anywhere no problem at all. Only thing that would stop it was snow deep enough to ground the car. This only happened once. If anyone has any doubts about winter driving then stick winter tyres on and relax. Over and above what I have said about winter tyres the Mk3 is easier to drive in snow because of the DSC. Less chance of the tail sliding. Of course it can be switched off if you want to go for a slide.
Happy Motoring
Yes.
Yes every day . mine is my daily driver and I must admit I am pleasantly suprised at how it drives rain or shine .In fact the rain can be more fun. Lives outside as the garage is already full with my summer car.
.
I wash it every week no matter what the weather so hopefully it will stay nice.
.
The mrs doesn’t like driving it in the rain as it can be abit tail happy , so thats a bonus as well
Hi Ben
My MX-5 is more of a fun/toy car as apposed to an A to B normal transport car. I only tend to go out if I can have the roof down.
My car is 7 months old with ony 1005 miles on the clock, I realised last month the car had never been out and got wet, decided the need to check out the hood for possible leaks whilst the car is still under warranty, so my car has now had its baptism.
A few weeks ago I went on the New Year run with the Cental Scotland Owners Club. On my return after cleaning the car I almost burnt out my wife’s hairdrier rin an attempt to dry out the underneath and disc drums etc. (Yes definitely a little OTT!!!) I have probably spent more time cleaning, waxing and polishing than driving. My car is garaged complete with cover to prevent any dust falling down from the garage roof.
I guess its pride of ownership, and I don’t think its wrong to take a pride in something particularly the the most regarded and revered light 2 seater sports car of all time.
I look forward to some decent weather and the opportunity to put a few more miles on my car and do less cleaning etc.
Neil
ND POLOSHING
Daily drive mine. Gets filthy as I have to drive along a muddy gravel path to get in and out of house, but I just have to wash it. Mechanical stuff doesn’t like not moving.
I use it every weekend ,used to just tax it for Summer but got so annoyed when I couldn’t take it out that I don’t do that any more,I don’t really use it when it’s pouring down or snowing but apart from that all the the time ,I also have a hard top but I’m still not sure about it - keeps the car nice and warm but you can’t just throw the roof off when you like ,my daily drive to work is a Skoda VRs but I’m retiring in a year so will use the MX even more
