Dont Buy BK Racing CHROME WHEELS

Hi all just thouught i would pass on some advice that i have learnt the hard and costly way. I bought some bk chrome wheels for my roadster in march 07, used the car from april to september on weekends only, wheels cleaned every week, then car put in garage from end of september till feb 08,to get ready for summer again, the chrome was coming off the wheels,i got in touch with supplier. They said that had some problems with them ,but it was sorted now and replaced the wheels.same again car used from april to sep then put away till this week to get ready for summer, chrome blistering again!.Got in touch with bk racing and was told they dont like damp,or wet!!.so if you buy any wheels from bk,make sure youdont drive though puddles, wash them ,or go out in the rain

Well they’ll just have to give you a new set every year until the problem either goes away , or they go bust!

Since they admitted that there was a problem with these wheels (after you’d bought them of course!) then they are really saying that they were not fit for sale in the first place. Could they not give you credit towards a different set of wheels?

You could always have them re-furbed in black!

Unfortunately it was the sales rep at top gear that said they had a lot of returns and there was a problem and not bk,they just replaced the wheels under the 12 month guarantee.

This time i got in touch with bk direct because out of waranty, and they said tough the guarantee is 12 months from the original purchess, they are show wheels and they don,t like the damp.

The nicest wheels I have for my 5 are a set of BK Racing wheels I bought in 1999 and have used in all weathers (on three different cars!) ever since. They aren’t chrome though, just silver with a polished rim.

A friend of mine had some wheels “chromed” (it’s actually a powder coating) and it started to flake off in under a year too.

Dont get me wrong the wheels look stuning im just fed up to spend so much cash on wheels to get 6 mths out of them befor the chrome blisters and peels, when i was younger cars had chrome bumpers and trim and if you looked after it it lasterd years it just seems they don’t make anything to last nowdays.5’s excepted

Surely then the name BK Racing is a bit misleading if you can’t actually use the wheels on the road without this fuss.

Chrome was done properly in days gone by . The new stuff is rubbish and more suited to putting on a kid’s toy than a wheel.

They are full of it really because I would have said when exchanging the wheels that the 12 months guarantee begins again otherwise it’s money back or an alternative.

Screw them and have the wheels sprayed ,powder coated, stove-enamelled or whatever . Then you wont worry about the chrome being awful.   Gunmetal is quite nice!!

Those wheels would have gone through BK’s window in my case.

Cheers

Pete

Got any pics???

no pics yet blisters hard to see on pics but will try at week end and post next week

Mazda wheels aren’t any better;their polished finish wheels (Mk1, 2, 2.5) were notorious for warranty returns.

I know what you mean pete, i would like to put them though thire window myself, but at leastno one else need  get caught if they read this.

thanks

dave

you need to have them tripple plated for them to last im affraid, i had to have my repro beetle bumpers done this way for the very same reason!

A lot of wheel restorers will recommend no lacquer, but just keep the wheels waxed. More intensive maintainance though.

Why? A bit of blistered plating isn’t going to stop you racing is it? [:D]

yes i agree but i cleen and polish every time it gets a run out

yes i know what you mean but if you look on thire web site it says tripple plated

sorry still no pics, sons car faild m.o.t. so i have been changing brake pipes and things
