door lock got stuck

has anyone got the same problem whose 5 has not got a remote locking?
it only happens in cold and when i move myself to open the lock it just doesnt turn, feels like I am using a wrong key
it happened to me several times but luckily everytime the passenger side lock is still unlockable so there is yet problem getting into the car
i suspect it is caused by some water fozen inside the lock mechanism and got stuck
the lock can be opened from inside and door can also be opened without problem
is it because of cold weather or my lock has got some problem?
or is there any method to prevent this happens?

You’re right - lock frozen. Mine can be the same even with central locking (makes no difference).
Prevention:- garage the car, displace the moisture (WD40 flood for example).
Temporary cure:- anti-freeze, hot water, leave car unlocked (may invalidate insurance if there was a theft or break-in though).

WD40 is only short term as well, as it dissolves the factory lubricant, and eventually evaporates. The aluminium barrel on the drivers lock wears (towards the bottom), and the key is a bit out of kilter. The spring for the flap cover is also prone to breakage. On some cars, I have seen this barrel actually cracked in half, whether as a result of the owner being brutal, or a failed break-in.

I recently stripped down my lock, which had all these problems. A good soaking in 3-1 oil with PTFE. Additionally, the inside of the barrel was greased, as was the tiny ball bearing at the end (easily lost). The lock is now beautifull slick. Incidently, the drivers and passenger door locks are interchangeable. As the passenger lock is usually unworn, thats the better one to put in if fitting aused lock. The brass leaves in the lock can also be set up, to reset a used lock to fit your key. Just takes a little patience, and good eyesight.

I have had this problem for months!!! I cant lock my driver door in case i cannot open it again, i’ve had some funny episodes at the drive thru where i’ve had to get out to pay by card…funny looks as i climb out of the passenger side…
First time it happened was after I filled the car up, locked the door to pay for the fuel then spent 5 minutes with the key trying to unlock the door… i gave up in the end and climbed in the passenger side but it took about 2 weeks before the door would unlock…
Is there a guide to changing the locks or cleaning/re-lubricating them??? I dont fancy invalidating my insurance for much longer…
