Drain holes

Hi,

I just bought a brush, double ended bristles, for cleaning my drain holes in the roof space.

Had been kind of looking for one for a while but only ever found ones from the USA at £15 on ebay, but found this on Amazon

Although others on MX5 parts.

if the link does not work, try this one:-

Trombone brushes do the job too.

Yeah I knew about the trombone brushes - but tried a few music shops to no avail.

When jet washing my car I could see the water running out the drain holes so I know mine are clear - but they’ll probably need cleaned some time in the future.

Hi

I use a metal coat-hanger. Cut and straighten to about 3’. Form one end into a ‘T’ to give you something to get hold of.  Put a slight crank in the other end.  File the ‘business’ end to a smooth, round point. Total cost er…  well… not much

I brought this one. Its great for cleaning out the drain holes and your trombone.

Then on a Mk3 you’ve just got to find the hole to stick it down.

I found a real easy way.

Maybe I’ll take a picture tonight and upload on here.

Yes please, I’ve not even started the hunt the drain plug game yet and would appreciate a starter for 10.

I use a flexible curtain wire (old fashioned way to hang a curtain) just because it was right there in my garage.

Wish I could find a easy way, been trying off and on for some time  without any luck, water in the boot, resealed

the high level brake light twice thinking it was that and thought it was sorted, washed the car yesterday and yes water

in the boot again so thinking it must be the drains tubes with a part blockage restricting the water flow.

Had another go at finding the drains, so if you have an easy way…please post a guide / photo on how to find

the drain tubes.

try this.

Sorry chaps, I forgot, however, I’ve stolen a picture from the link above.

The general consensus is to go in at an angle through the hole (marked with a red circle), whilst having the roof supported slightly.

However, you can actually gain access via the gap in the plastics (marked with yellow arrow).

If you shine a torch in the gap, you’ll see the drain hole directly below.

This doesn’t require the roof to be supported, and you don’t have to fumble about trying to find the correct angle either.

We it looks from that link that I don’t have to worry as I have a PRHT. Phew.

^^^^^ seriously think you need a new screwdriver, that’s hanging!

It looks worse than my leg and back did last year when i had Shingles…and still not fully recovered.

Spiral bottle/pipe cleaner set of brushes off fleabaay/Amazon for pennies - many widths included - electrical tape securely to length of Flymo cord, feed in from top - reach under and pull down and through.
