Drivers who speed will be slowed down by EU car tech

Does ‘safety’ include the binning of the spare wheel for that useless goo, in about 90%+ of new cars, count?

I haven’t seen tat, but I’ve got a Nissan Elgrand with a 360 camera/reverse/side and front. Plus the side view stays on at whatever speed, so you can see parked up cars on the left hand side when traveling down tightish roads. Amazing for my ‘skills’

If some people disagree or oppose a view with a coherent reason they are not necessary complainers. Some might argue that good debate can highlight issues that would go unseen. The ability to truely listen without prejudice can be extremely difficult.

Sounds really good that; those cameras on the Nissan.

Yeah the spare wheel issue is not good. I got a full replacement put into my Aygo. Thinking is there space for one in the MX5?

It can over emphasize an issue, because, in this context, its possible some of the complainers don’t understand the device.

A good business can be ruined by overly negative reviews. It can cut both ways of course.

ie. Should all 2020 BMW X5s be recalled. The manufacturer doesn’t seem to be interested, neither do the German and British authorities it seems.

Are MX5s utter rot boxes to be avoided in the same way Lancia Betas were avoided? After all, rust is a common theme on most MX5 forums, people complaining about rust. All anecdotes. The available MOT data tells though a different story; MX5s are no more likely to fail due to rot that any other car of a similar age.

The threads rarely see a contribution along the line of “My MX5 has no rust, nor any problem I can think of”.

Resistance to change is a common thing in car design. Some changes are poorly conceived. Most are not, or rather, they don’t really matter, and after a few years people can’t remember the objections.

Another way of framing that though is that it don’t really matter by default- if there’s no choice.
Again I point out that I think people aren’t grumbling too much about things that seem to seemingly work in the background, such as a traction, abs, seat belt etc etc, but maybe they’ve got some point in the cases where they kind of don’t, when a lane keep assist tries to bump them off, or a brake assist emergancies at bizarre things (as in my experience, described earlier), creating an incident which it didn’t need to.

I don’t think there is for the ND. On the US forum, which I browse now and again, there was some Prius one which someone said fitted. But I drew a blank trying to source one, as maybe it was on a US specific Prius. Not sure.

At the moment I have the Mazda Breakdown Assistance. That will cover me for 12 months. Usually I do take out the breakdown assistance with cars but with a spare tyre chances are you can continue on your journey!

I wonder if a device can be created that holds a spare tyre in the boot safely? Would not be ideal though. With the foam if the tyre is too damaged you kind of only have the choice to be transported to a location where the tyre can be fixed. I think the breakdown cover might have onward travel but again not ideal, would rather use the MX5.

My 1934 car still has a hand throttle and manual advance retard.
And I can put a handle on the crankshaft to start it.
I can operate its single wiper blade by hand.

So it was out of date in 1934.

Austin went to auto advance in about 1935.
As my car is a sports model its more basic, legally I dont need to have a windscreen wiper on it as the windscreen will open.
The way things are going it will keep up with most modern traffic until it finds a hill to go up.
Its lives with a mark 1 Eunos Rs Ltd running on throttle bodies which is a little bit faster !!!
We are about to have 20 MPH limits imposed on us locally which will not stop the people that break the current 30 MPH limit That means I will be driving the Eunos round in first gear most of the time.

This is the failed logic I can never understand.
People do not adhere to the current speed limit so we will lower the speed limit !!!
Where do they get these people.

Unimog’s still had a hand throttle (and may still do) well into the late 80’s, so quite advanced really!
