Duxford Airfield Run 8th March, Meet and Route Added!

So on the 8th March the Sun will shine and it will be time for a good old run then.

The  first part of the day is a traditional run to Duxford Airfield, we will be meeting up at a suitable location and Roadster Robbie has a tulip run planned to take us down to Duxford arriving sometime after midday - what happens then is pretty much up to you! Park up and wander around Duxford at your own pace, or join in with some other members who have asked if I will show some them around some of the exhibits, which I will be more than pleased to do. We can then make our own way home, or if you can hang around…

We have a unique opportunity on Sunday evening to witness something never before shown at Duxford. A number of aircraft from “The  Fighter  Collection”  will be run up at night adjacent to you!

With lighting and access as near as  is possible, those with cameras or video cameras will  have a truly  original opportunity to capture this event which harks back to the airfields around East Anglia in WWII. You can listen to the sound of  a V12 or Radial 1800hp engine being run up in the  night time air and watch as the temperatures cause the exhausts to glow red hot.

After wards Phill O’Dell, Chief Pilot with Rolls-Royce plc will give a talk while you have a dinner surrounded by the aircraft of “The Fighter Collection”- you will then have the opportunity to see these aircraft and talk with the engineers and pilots of the aircraft. Who says ER doesn’t go that extra  mile!!

The evening session (Aircraft run up, dinner, talk, hanger  visit is by kind arrangement with The Friends of The Fighter Collection. It is limited to  Friends and MX-5 Eastern Region members only, we are extremely privileged to have  been offered this opportunity. Places must be booked by  January 30th and the evening costs £25 to cover food, insurance, fire cover etc.

The Evening must be pre booked with me by e-mail me at tfc@catrain.co.uk the event has officially sold out but i have reserved some tickets for ER members until 30th January so be quick!

We will need an idea of numbers, so please let us know if you would like to come along as soon as please, also indicate what parts of the day you plan to attend as it will help us twist Duxford’s arm into maybe some exclusive parking for the afternoon (museums work slowly so as much info as possible is always appreciated).

Jamie (tescotink)

I shall be on the run but we shop at Sainsburys so is it ok to come along ? [:P]

Can’t Jamie Oliver sort Duxford tickets!

yes, but you will pay  more  for the  privilage

[unless lots  of people sign up and we get a  discount [hint]

Id like to be in on the Drive and the afternoon please.

Please note the  evening is well and truly sold out!  As per  first post (highlighted above) we are well past the  last entry  date!

If you are intending to go please let  Jamie  know .  We may also  be late for  a  “special” parking place as the  museum needs time to  make arrangements.  The rest of the  visit willl be well worthwhile - aeroplanes like to come out and play in the  sunshine [H]

So lets hope it is a sunny day [:)]

Apologies to all hoping to book the evening, the event is sold out and i forgot to double check the e-mail before i sent it! Sorry[:$]

But the good news is we still have plenty of room left on the run and for the museum visit itself, hope to see as many of you there as possible, either e-mail me jamie@mx5easternregion.co.uk or PM me on here, even easier just put a post on this topic and i will count you in.

Jamie

See you all at Tesco

Jamie

 A little additional info:

We have been told that the food served at the Cafe (not the evening food) can be a bit hit and miss, so a few people are going to take a bit of a picnic to Duxford.

The Post code for Tesco Newmarket is CB8 7AH

Hope this all helps

Jamie
