Better than a colleague’s new s-brown Rover SD1. After six months (living at salty sea-air Brighton) most of the panels had rusted through and BL wrote it off under warranty.
The story goes that they did not bother to paint them where not visible, so a lot faster through the paint shop.
There was ( for real) a small squad of guys at certain intervals of SD1 line-build ups whose job it was to give the inside of the doors and other bits eg tail gate a quick whiff of primer stuff.
There was a lot of bare metal in these and other BL products which left the factory already rusting.
The UK deserved to lose it’s mass car production.
1978? New company Datsun 180B Estate. Ragged it senseless all over Scotland, NE,l and N.I. for 3 years without fault. It was so clean ( since I looked after it very well, that I wanted to buy it off my company…to no avail. I’d grab another tomorrow.
Earlier i went to my usual ESSO place to put the '99 in the NISMO and it was run dry. I looked and it would have been £1.409
So I went to the tesco about 2 miles away from it (and on the route home) and filled with Momentum…and that was 1p MORE at £1.419!
I have now put half a tank of E10 through the car and whilst I am still typically in a gear lower than I would expect to be (4th instead of 5th, 5th instead of 6th), I had a surprising result on fuel economy. Admittedly, this was a group of us using minor A roads (A+3 numbers) and B roads (B+ 4 numbers) nearly all the way from Cambridge area to Sutton Hoo near Ipswich.
The first picture is after 70 miles when we stopped for the obligatory “comfort stop” and the second is at the end of the day. it’s been a long time since I saw figures like that but running in a group of 6 cars on the back-roads of Suffolk meant a more relaxed driving style.
I filled my 1.8 2005 NB for the first time with E10 and went for a 40 mile drive today. Can’t say I noticed any difference in performance because I completely forgot about it until I was reminded by this thread.
I filled up at ASDA yesterday, big sign on the pump stating check out the DVLA site to find out if you car is compatible bla bla, on the actual nozzle of the pump it said E10.
First time I’ve noticed that but not fuelled up for around 2 weeks, we’ll see how she runs etc…
As I posted earlier, I noticed a difference. E10 MPG improved over 200+ Miles back to the E5 level, but I still noticed some performance difference, having to be in a lower gear than I was used to. At 75% empty, I refilled with Esso 99 and within 25 Miles it was back, in my opinion, to where it was on E5.
Just my 2 pennyworth, your experience my be different.
Embarrassed but here is the clock yesterday after a “peaceful” drive into the Fens… I wouldn’t usually admit an MPG starting with a 5 but… This was taken at the Esso fill-up but before I used any.
Ethanol has a lower energy density that petrol and so E5 will always produce poorer fuel consumption and poorer performance than petrol, and E10 will be worse still.
