I have just bought an electric polisher from Halfords at £29, so that I can make our caravan look like new again. Job done, now what should I do with the polisher? I know, let’s have a go on the '5. I followed the instructions on the box to the letter and although I got a reasonable result, it was only as good as a hand polish (car “clayed” last week). I re-applied the polish (Autoglym Red) again to the bonnet and this time folded a new peice of micro fibre cloth and placed it onto the wax. I then placed the polisher onto the cloth and turned it on…OMG! what a finish! using no pressure at all to the polisher, just moving it in a sweeping motion, the bonnet came up like glass.Managed to get front half of the car done before rain stopped play. I’ll post piccys as soon as I can.
Was the micro fibre cloth the very smooth silky one or the courser type?
It was the silky type, you get a course on with the polisher and a lambswool cover as well. The one that was supplied didn’t do as good a job as my own one.
I will have to get one. Particularly as I have foolishly put my car on the owners club stand at Super Car Sunday in June! Ady with the lovely black mk1 as featured STHT is also going to be there, have you seen the great condition of the paintwork on that car!
I was always worried about burning the paint using a machines polish, did you use a bit of water with it?
No, I didn’t use water. I just applied the polish by hand and then buffed it off. I tried first with Turtle wax and although the finish was passable I found that AutoGlym red gave the best result. I am going to leave it a week until the polish has had time to harden and then go over the car with a finish of AutoGlym gold. Once done I’ll upload photo’s.
