Hi. The electric windows on my wife’s 94 Eunos (the one she thinks is hers, but doubles as my weekend car) are really slow to wind down and often need a bit of a push to help them on their way. I’m not sure whether this could be something as simple as lubricating the edges of the windows to help them slide better, or a symptom of something more complicated such as the motors needing replacing. before i start opening the door panels and poking around, can anyone offer any suggestions?
Regards, Alan.
First thing to try - get some aerosol spray lithium-based grease, and squirt it down the window channels (you need to lower the windows for this, or for best effect, pop the door card off, peel back the plastic shield and squirt some into the lower part of the window channel too.
This might free them up a bit, if not, you may be looking at corroded cables (as the cables get older, they rust, this then restricts their travel). Eventually, if you don’t replace them, the cable breaks (personal experience here…) but the replacement cable sets (two cables) and a new drum-capstan for the motor, are under £30 from MX5 parts - and best of all it is only an hours’ work to fit.
