Engine code reader

I have looked at the thread which shows you how to make a code reader from an LED and a resistor, but can someone clarify exactly what parts are needed to make it…

I have looked on maplins website, and there are loads of different components, quoting diffeent voltages and the like, so I really done know what I need to get.

Please can someone update the FAQ (I cant find it now to post it here!)

Thanks in advance

This any good? Got mine from Maplins long ago so can`t recall exactly what parts i bought.

Thanks for the tip Dave, but that looks like pretty much the same page in the tech section on here.

I rally am useless with electrics, and there are loads of different types of resistors on maplins, but none that i can find are simply 2000 ohms or 500 ohms.

RS are the best for this sort of stuff

resistors

and

near enough   http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/searchBrowseAction.html?method=getProduct&R=0386767

however your best bet if you have limited experience is this one

http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/product_info.php/products_id/35  a small book by John Cookson who is the Owners Club chief technical bloke, cost £6 and includes the resistor and diode.

Thanks Geoff, that will be perfect.

Shame I didnt find this on their site when I ordered my exhaust, would have saved me £1.45 in p&p [;)]

Ordered one this morning, hopefully get it tomorrow as I have another day off work then.

Hopefully it will give me an idea why my fuel consumption is only 20 -25 mpg [:O]
