Just a quick question, where was the oil leaking from?
I would be amazed if an oil change caused the sort of damage you are talking about. Most certainly putting 5W30 semi synth won’t have had the effect that you describe—

Oil was coming from front pulley area, sprayed all over steering rack and radiator area. Made a right mess, but after oil change and jet wash no further leaks…
Having read all the posts on here and other sites relating to engine oil I have to say I’m totally confused with what oil to put in my 2003 Mk2.5 SVT Sport.
Because it’s a Mk2.5 I believe it hasn’t got HLA’s and therefore I haven’t got that issue. Fairly low milage.
Haven’t had it long and has been serviced by a Mazda dealer since new. I want to change the oil/filter to satisfy myself. The person I bought it from has no idea what oil has been used previously. Whether it be 5/30, 10/40, 0/40, Mineral, Semi Synthetic or Full Synthetic?
Does anybody know what a Main Dealer on a service uses? Does it really matter what’s been used before?
Is Semi Synthetic better than Mineral? Is Full Synthetic better than both? What really confused me was the Americans call Mineral Oil Dino Oil!!
I am begining to settle on Mobil S 10/40 Semi Synthetic which is stocked by MX5 Parts and 10/40 is quoted in the Owners Manual so should be safe. MX5 Parts also list the Full Synthetic 0/40 which costs almost twice as much but it’s not recomended in the owners manual. 5/30 in Owners Manual but not on MX Parts.
I could go on with more inconsistancies as I haven’t done an oil change for a few years and oil then was a simple choice between Castrol or Duckhams 20/50.[:$] All hell seems to have broken loose regarding oil types since then.
