ENGINE REPLACMENT

ADVICE NEEDED, I HAVE A MK1 WITH A SHORT CRANK MOTOR WHICH IS BROKEN, I WANT TO REPLACE IT WITH A 1.8 WHICH I THINK SHOULD JUST DROP IN, CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT PROBLEMS I MIGHT COME ACROSS, GEAR BOX, CLUTCH, ECU ETC. CHEERS

Thanks, we have decided to refit the original motor, are the short crank motors rare and sought after ?

Not rare and definitely not sought after, unless you get one with a perfect short nose and no wear to the woodruff key slot. This potentially is the Achilles heel for this motor. Having said that, I’ve ran several SNC 1.6 engines over the years and never had an issue. Perhaps a LNC 1.6 might be an option? Depends what BROKEN mean on your original engine I suppose.
