ER Event - Sunday 10th June - Pathfinder Run

Thanks Karen, fingers crossed the nice weather continues!

Carole

Route now available for download, link here or see first post. Please download and print a copy to bring along on the day.

Very much regret that we have got to drop out, we have just learned that we need to be elsewhere that weekend.  I am sure it will be very special and apologise for the short notice.

Anne & John

Very sorry to hear that you have had to bail before take-off, but it does mean that there is a space now for someone else for the musuem.

Kev and Sue are on the stand-by list, so one of you can now come - please let me know if you want to take the space.

I need to send the list to the Museum tomorrow (Friday) so would need any changes by then please.

Carole

Has anyone seen the TAF (Terminal Area Forecast) on 10093012Z (0930 Sunday 10th June 2012) for QUY EGUY (RAF Wyton) doesn’t look pritty! Think there’s going to be a lot of SHRA (showers of rain)

Did I take the RAF speak too far! Oh bugger!

Think it means it might rain! Hope it holds off looking forward to seeing you all.

Looking forward to my first Mazda outing! Keeping my fingers crossed the weather man will be wrong. Mx

 Gold Leader here…

Looking forward to Sunday’s sortie and meeting the Sqdn!

Don’t forget your photo id if you are down to visit the museum.

Foreign nationals must tell me NOW as you will need to be escorted around the base.

9:45 am pre ops briefing at Wood Green Animal Shelter

10am Sqdn scramble

Fingers crossed for good weather!

Carole

Please can you add Phil and Mary-Ann. Late due to tactical retreat from relatives, looking forward to some low flying around the local lanes.

Realise museam is full … would be interested if a number of people drop out.

Phil

Thanks Phil, look forward to seeing you both on Sunday.

The museum is full but you can bring your photo id with  you in case of any bail outs on the day.

Cheers

Carole

Route printed and levels checked. Looking out of my window the sky is blue and the sun is shining! See you all tomorrow.

Alternate Return Flight Waypoint

If any of you fancy a little in flight re-fueling on the way home if you pass St Ives try tea and cakes at: http://www.rivertearooms.co.uk/

Highly recommneded for CAVOK (sunny) weather conditions as can sit outside alongside river. Number of fuel slots limited.

Recommend approach flight path is:

  • Circle St Ives to the east
  • Then approach and descend from the south to land at Dolphin Hotel (http://www.dolphinhotelcambs.co.uk/)
  • Walk north across old road bridge to tea rooms (about 100 yards) - pausing to admire old chapel in middle of bridge.
  • Need £1 coin to leave car park.

Reccy done, weather looks good for tomorrow’s sortie. Early start for some so don’t stay too long in the NAAFI tonight!

Looking forward to seeing the ER Big Wing!

Chocks Away!

 Hi Carole

Pleased to be the first to thank you for a really great run, such an interesting route on perfect roads and in glorious weather.

Given us a totally changed view of Cambridgeshire.

Thanks again you certainly earnt that gold star.

David & Carol

Carole,

Thank you for a brilliant Pathfinder run, and the perfect weather. Would be interested in any future repeat of the run.

Phil & Mary-Ann

Thanks Carole for a perfectly excecuted run today. Sorry I had to “shove off” early. Great route and another good turnout from the Eastern Region.

I’ve created an album on the Eastern Region Photobucket here, please contact me for login details.

As usual, a volunteer to do a write up for Newsletter or Soft Top Hardtop would be appreciated.

 Hi Carole,

Proud to be part of the squadron today. Thank you for a terrific drive on great roads and through countryside that I (and many others I suspect) never knew existed in that part of our region.

The visit to the museum was the icing on the cake and was a reminder of the courage and bravery of those airmen who served in the Pathfinders.

Again many Thanks,

David & Elaine

Gold Leader here

Ah Robbie we were both doing the same thing!  I don’t know if I’ve done it right but I created an album too and put some photos in here.  If it hasn’t worked I’ll use yours!

Thanks for coming and for being ‘tail end Charlie’ to shepherd everyone to the correct destinations.

Many thanks to everyone who turned up from different squadrons - some from far flung corners of the Region - to form the Eastern Region Big Wing.  I think it was 21 in the end?  This is the first run I’ve done, but it was so worth it to see so many happy faces, and SUNSHINE!!!

Glad you all enjoyed it, and thanks for joining in the spirit of the event - some went the extra mile, and I don’t mean they got lost! Such a giggle I think I found a few more laugher lines…

Johnnie from the museum will send me a cd of his shots outside the HQ building at RAF Wyton and I will post them in the photo bucket.  You may use them to support any article you may want to write for STHT or the ER newsletter, but please credit them.  I’ll send him a note of thanks too.  They will have a display at the Little Grandsen Airshow later this year so if you are going do say hallo (even if it is for a bit of his birthday cake!)

Until the next sortie…

Over and out!

 Hi Carole,

What a fantastic run today culminating in the Pathfinder Museum visit which was both absolutely fascinating and humbling to learn what those brave airmen did for this country. Many thanks for such an enjoyable day and I think that everyone will agree that your first run was a huge success.

Kev and Sue

Carole,

What a fantastic day - hugh fun - really enjoyed the run through the countryside and the excellent company. Can you also please pass on our thanks to Johnnie for his enthusiasic and entertaining insight to the Pathfinders  and museum at RAF Wyton when you talk with him next - we could have stayed for hours listening to his experiences.

Love the Photo’s (Jocks Away - very good)

Regards, Clive & Gail

Thanks Carole for an excellent sortie, you should wear your gold medal with pride. I counted them all in (21) and I counted them all out (22) (Unfortunately one pilot missed the sharp take off but joined in at the fuel stop.)

Super weather (almost made it back to base without switching the wipers on) certainly didn’t need any assistance with landing!

Great roads and lovely villages, you must have negotiated hard with Air Traffic Control to clear the way, very little flack and a resounding successful mission.

Thank you, Salute

David & Nicola.
