Expat ; Coming Home ; Help with Insurers

Hi folks ; We are expatriated here in Dubai ; Been here 5 years.

Bought an RF Launch edition and looking to insure it for when we come home.

Can anyone recommend an insurer that will look at us as Expats returning to the UK ?

I’m 49, full licence 25+ years, full NCD but happy to reset my NCD in the UK just to avoid hassle factors.

TIA

I had no issues after returning from the US. Obviously, you have lost all NCB.

can you advise which Insurer or Broker you used please ?

It was a very long time ago, and it was a local broker in Northern Ireland, but there was no special reason I picked them, other than they specialised in Mazdas.

My father also spent many years as an expat in the Middle east, and there was no issue when returning to the UK.

If you have spent 5 years out side of the UK, all of your NCB has expired. If you are hoping to earn a discount from driving in a Middle Eastern country, forget it.

As a starting point go on a comparison website such as ‘Moneysupermarket’ and see what quotes you get. If that doesn’t work for you then contact a broker who I’m sure would be able to help. In fact if you ‘Google’ your question it brings up brokers/companies that specialise in these circumstances.

When I arrived here from Australia 20 years ago, I faced the same problem.

Found it hard to find an insurer / broker willing to make any allowances for existing clean record until I came across Keith Michaels https://www.keithmichaels.co.uk/contact-us/

Been using them ever since and have recently switched my home and contents over to them. Excellent service and competitive prices.

thanks darryl ; I’ve emailed them my enquiry !

fwiw I’m not overly concerned about my ncd ; I did however have 10years + when I left the uk and still have a clean driving record as well as low risk uk postcode…

You may well find that some insurers may offer you some sort of introductory NCD, based on your driving experience, so you won’t have to start from nothing.

Phil

even better then Phil ; my only problem currently is that I’m expatriated in Dubai so difficult to get any insurance for the odd trip home.

I’ll be happy to resolve once I get back full time.

one question they are asking is time spent in the UK ; I have a 4, almost 5 year hiatus from UK residency so I’m unsure if this affects coverage provision ?

All very easy before I left ; All very difficult coming back !

Hmm, not sure about that one, each company will have their own criteria, but I’m sure you’ll be able to find cover - going through a broker might be best as they will be able to find the best cover for you.

Good luck!

Phil
