I quite like that to be honest, especially at that price can’t go wrong really, just wondering where it would be mounted on my Mark 1 dash though he he
I bought a similar thing for my last car (Fiesta), and could not find a good place to put it.
I settled for it on the top of the dash, but it bothered me when driving along, so only lasted a week.
I thought about re-fitting it to the MX5, but again could not think of a good place - it is just too long. Goodness knows where I’ve put it now though - kicking about somewhere…
You really need one that doesn’t display the inside temperature, since your body can feel that it doesn’t really matter (Unless you want Climate Control in your MK1 - constantly adjusting the sliders to keep it at 19.4 degrees…)
It might be interesting to know how much the heaters can bring the “interior” temperature up, even with the roof down though! Blow enough hot air at your feet, and it might warm the sensor up a little as it passes!
I fitted a very similar piece to my V Spec as I wanted both a clock and outside temp guage:
Just above the centre consul
I ran the cable in the join between black and tan then into the engine bay and mounted the sender in front of the main rad on the cross member which works fine on the move, though if stuck in traffic for long you do get a build up of heat so the reading gets way out. Have to say, it works for what I intended it to be. This one runs on an AA battery so not hard wired to the car.

That Nardi wheel really is the dogs bits, to me anyway
Looks O.K. but how is it fixed to the consol? I would be reluctant to drill holes in such a prominent position - too permanent. Maybe somewhere in the cubby box would be an idea and if you got tired of it at least it wouldn’t be too expensive to reverse. Might even be able to do it in such a way that fixings would be invisible.
Nothing very clever, it is the wonderful double sided tape. When it comes to battery change time I can still get to the cover and as and when it goes I can wipe off the adhesive with a bit of petrol.
There’s a gap on my centre console, just to the left of the clock. I don’t know what it’s for, but I’m sure I’ll find a use for it at some point! These temperature gauges look quite tempting, but I think they’re too long to fit in there.
On a side note, does anyone know what that gap’s for? I’ve got a mk2 S if that helps. I’ll be posting photos later, but someone’s borrowed my camera. :-
