Father Christmas special

 Especially from Santa Claus

Look out for the new personalised number plate at the Jan club meeting

Ho Ho Ho

Merry Christmas MX5Joy, as most of us can’t be at your next meeting in January how about giving us a preveiw of number plate?

At the moment they are sitting in my lounge, but once on the car after the final bit of paperwork is done, then I will certainly post a pic.

Intriguing [^o)]

Found the first snag, rear plate wrong shape, long rectangle rather than square for Mk 1, so a reorder is the New Year first job.

Well done Joy, you can park next to my car now

Ah yes the next meet I will be in the Christmas present that came for my partner Dee

 Great Drew

Tomorrow I will pay a visit to my local motor shop to see if I can sort a new number plate, really do not want to get into internet ordering. Apparently some places make up a plate on the premises. As you will eventually see not only is the number personalised but the plate itself, so not sure if this will cause a problem. Only once I have the plate sorted can I take the paperwork into the DVLA in Chelmsford to finalise it.

F R U S T R A T I N G

Just a word of warning Joy, and you may be aware of this already.

When you go to the DVLA at Chelmsford they do not assign the plate to the car there and then as they used to. You literally hand in the paperwork there and it is processed and returned to you in about 7 days; only then do you have the right to actually put the plate on the car.

Made this mistake myself when I transfered my plate to the MX-5 from my other car a couple of months ago AFTER informing both insurance companies that it was going to be done on that day; that taught me to be organised! I have had my plate for 14 years and this is the first time it has happened to me; it always was done there and then although admitedly the last couple of transfers have been looked after by dealers so not sure of how long this system has been in place.

Don’t want you getting caught out!

Brian

Hopefully we’ll see your new plate on the London-Brighton run if you’re going

In answer to Brian, yes I did know it is hand in the paperwork job, then wait up to 10 days. I just wanted to be sure I got the plate first rather than get the paperwork and be stuffed about the plate. One thing you did highlight was to let the insurance know. I may well have overlooked that, so good to hear the voice of experience.

London to Brighton - Not sure yet

What a minefield this number plate business is. Today I went to my local motor shop to order my resized plate. Easy I thought. He tells me I have a “show plate” purchased from the internet. Illegal he says, so I agree to go away and think about my options.

So here goes

No car logos allowed on front or rear plates, but the European logo with GB front and rear is legal. No small messages along the bottom of the plate only the company name supplying. Standard letter sizing and certainly no numbers made to look like letters or vice versa, lucky I did not contravene this one.

So a compromise for the rear is what I have decided, that is the one that currently won’t fit.

European GB logo with Standard lettering, but yes I will take a chance on my small message INSTEAD of someones company name.

An internet order is currently being organised.

HIMX5JOY JUST A MENTION  RE MOT,I BOUGHT  OFF INTERNET CAR FAILED MOT ON ILLIGAL SPACING OF LETTERS/NUMERALS   REGARDS RAZZIE

Fortunately the one thing that is totally correct is the letter spacing. There could be a small issue about a Mazda logo with a small footer message on the plates.

Will wait and see at the next MOT.

If you go to Maidstone DVLA you can fit the plate the same day.

Thanks Drew good to know, not in so much of a rush so will stick with Chelmsford.

I have a proper legal boring set which get fitted on mot day…

How pathetic is it getting in this country, burglary/shootings/stabbings… sorry govenor your spacing is wrong on your plate…jeez

Sorry rant over… mind you I know the owner of the garage so makes it easier [;)]

I just loved this solution

Who would have thought that a simple present from Santa would provoke so much interest!

Might be simple from where you are Brian, certainly not simple here.

 Bloody nightmare Ha Ha

get there eventually hopefully.
