First Service at Main Dealer

I was sorting of joking, really that did happen to you?
The cheek of it, I paid the last time I bought the stuff £3.50 for 5 litres.

Been mentioned before on here, some
do valet and wash the car inclusive of the service price…please I used to say leave the car alone, you made it look worse last time.

Unless on one of my services, when I was charged for screen wash, some silly price too, when I then said it’s not possible, as it was totally full going in!

Yep its booked into Stonecare Mazda Hull. I asked them for a price and then asked if they could do “a deal” which they said they couldn’t. I don’t feel the price they have offered is a total p take bearing in mind the fact that they are main dealers with obviously big overheads. (In -laws recently paid £325 for a first service on a Dacia Duster!) The bit that got me more was the attempted up -selling up of the so called “oil flush” and “injection cleaner” I guess some non car people would feel that they needed to have these things done. What’s involved I don’t know but I could hazard a guess!

You could try playing the game and ask why, despite the manufacture not stating it, and the car presumably with not many miles on it, and presumably barely a year old, do they recommend a fuel and engine flush. I’d go at that all day long.

So you don’t have any other quotes to compare against, OK.

Would be interesting to see if the Grimsby dealer, for example, quoted exactly the same price. Seeing as they’re a different dealer franchise.

If you’re thinking about getting your new car serviced for the first time, you’ll also need to consider the likelihood of successfully submitting a warranty claim if it wasn’t serviced by a main dealer during the warranty period. Technically, it shouldn’t matter if Mazda parts and procedures are used, but if honoring a warranty claim is borderline, I’ve always thought it helps if you’ve had main dealer servicing during the warranty period.

As an aside, are 3rd party garages able to update the service records at Mazda (on-line), as we don’t get physical booklets now as proof or servicing having been done?

Yes, if they have access to the Mazda DSR system.

Yes, that’s a good point. It just probably saves a headache and a fight.
Personally I don’t mind dealerships if you get one who know what you’re like (if you’re the ‘fussy’ kind). I go to Mazda (Newport) as they’ve been great with me, in the twice I’ve been there thus far. I ask for a particular technician, and the service manager I’ve spoken to loads and ‘followed him’ when he moved dealerships, is very adaptable and flexible. They know I’m all over my car. Don’t want it washed, talk to the tech afterwards and before etc. Bloke on the desk is nice too and is flexible with the price. Part of building up a relationship I guess, if the dealership ethos/people are positive.

I find the Sytner one I go with my mrs’ MINI quite ‘sterile’ as is the VW one I go to with the up! gti. We used to go there with a polo we had 7-8-9 years ago and it’s quite ‘sterile’ too. Kind of cold. Bit back to the future being there again.
And then the local garage/importer when I have my NIssan Elgrand serviced, I stand talking to the guy as he does it!

Ha, yes. Take the car there for a niggly issue (and only that issue) a couple or more times because they can’t fix it and they work out it’s more efficient to sort you out properly to make you go away

Ford once tried to charge me for an air filter supply and fit as part of a service and I asked the service manager how they managed it when I had an aftermarket intake kit. They also dented my car. Since then I haven’t bothered with any main dealer, just don’t seem any more trustworthy or conscientious than any other.

On what I assume is a nearly new car, for me, the value created by a Mazda service record (warranty, resale, etc) would far outweigh any issues of a Mazda service being slightly dearer than the local garage. On such a new car I suspect depreciation will be the main cost - and will massively exceed any service costs. If you’re running around in a 20 year old NBFL (like me) then a Mazda Main Dealer service probably doesn’t add anything. Re engine flush - I would want to know if this would add value on the first service as I assume this is the best time to get rid of any ‘burn-in’ debris / debris left over from manufacturing, should such debris exist.

It is is, why isn’t it on the service schedule?

Good question. That said, I think if you’ve bought a new or nearly a new car and plan to keep it, then £50 etc for an extra engine flush is irrelevant, so probably worth doing if it’s going to help the life of the car. Maybe not if the car is leased / PCP or you only plan to keep it a few years.

Sadly, yes. C’est la vie.

At my first MX5’s service done just before I acqured the car (1yr, ~1400 miles) a main dealer managed to damage/curb an alloy. Fortunately I got them to replace rather than repair the wheel.

I guess you mean Stoneacre Hull. Not that branch but had a dealing with one of their other branches over purchasing an NC, I’ll just say they were a bunch of liars, nuff said. I contacted their HQ and never got a reply.

I guess it all depends on age and warranty status.
