When welding the sills on my 5 a few months ago I had a bit of a mishap and ended up with a melted door card so when I saw a roll of 5mm foam backed black Alcantara I bought it and thought I would have a go at retrimming my door cards and I’m quite suprised with the results.
How much is this stuff and could I possibly use it to insulate my boot lid and bottom of boot to stop condensation? It looks really nice. Where do I get it from? How do I trim it and stick to the metal? Really new to this trimming stuff.
I paid £40 for a roll (of material[:$]) and that was delivered but I dont think Alcantara would be suitable for your boot as it’s similar to suede and probably won’t last long with the condensation.
Tracy, you should really treat the cause of the dampness, not the symptoms. Have you tried drying out everything that you keep in the boot, including the carpet etc? Are all your boot seals in good condition? The seals under those bolts that hold the hardtop on do deteriorate and let water in. I have all sorts of cloths tools and a coat in mine and I have never, up to now, suffered from dampness in the boot.
