Hi all. I have a dearly beloved & tiny 1969 Moto-Lita steering wheel which I would love to fit to my 2000 Mk 2 1600, to make it go even sharper round corners.
Does anyone out there know how this could be done whilst retaining the “COWARD’S BAG” so that the insurers don’t get all upset.?
Cost is a factor, being a tight Jock.
in anticipation:

Hi Gordon…I’m pretty sure you wont be able to retain an airbag with your Motalita wheel. The airbag is part of the wheel assembly which you would be getting rid of. Last year I ditched the horrid airbag wheel on my Mk1 1.8iS and replaced it with a nice Momo wheel and boss. I used a Works Bell boss which was supplied with an appropriate diode to defeat the warning light and fool the electronics into thinking the airbag is still there (cost about £70 quid unfortunately but they do occasionally crop up on eBay). I think the diodes can be obtained separately if necessary. General concensus when I did mine was this was not an insurance issue…mine couldn’t care less.
Thanks Monzaman. Don’t like the sound of the electronics bit. I’m a hammer & spanner man, but I will investigate further.
Cheers
Gordon
