Faced with an incompetant NU call centre I am keen to change and thought as I had joined the Club I would give AON a try, well they were £115 more expensive than my renewal with NU !!! £495 Fully Comp.
Adrian Flux with just an online are around £50 lower than NU and I believe once I add the club detials and the fact I have just insured a Bike with them, ther results will be far greater.
Sorry to report but believe the Club scheme / preferred is not a cost effective solution, it might be as we are using it with 10k miles as the car is used daily but both of us are clear of claims convictions and as my good lady says 30/10 in age.
Insurance prices vary massively from person to person, location to location, and car to car
In my instance, Admiral were about £1500 cheaper than NU, and I recall Adrian Flux said that there was no point in them quoting when they asked what my best quote was so far.
I had arranged insurance before joining the club, so don’t know how the AON scheme would compare, but I would be hugely surprised if they could come close to matching my price from Admiral - next year perhaps, but not just now.
01mx5, are you relatively young? (If you don’t mind me asking!) because that sounds very similar indeed to my experiences recently. I’m 27 and also a fairly new driver (been driving about 4 years) and I had quotes ranging from £600 to £1500, and Adrian Flux said there wasn’t any point in them quoting as they couldn’t beat the £600.
Then I tried Admiral, and got a multicar quote for £600 for my '5 and my gf’s Corsa.
I don’t understand insurance… I’m sure they just make it up as they go along…
As an OC member, I got AON to quote for my insurance when I bought the '5. They weren’t competitive, even with the OC discount (I ended up with A-Plan, who were not only better on price but also offered a policy with better terms).
It seems I’m not the only MX5OC member who’s found the OC-endorsed and discounted insurance scheme to be uncompetitive. Given that it’s supposed to be one of the main benefits of OC membership, perhaps it’s time for someone from the club to have a word with someone from AON and explain to them that there’s a lot of benefit to be had in PR terms from having their name linked so closely with the OC, which is something that they might like to think about when they quote for OC members’ motor insurance. Alternatively, it might be time to look at a different broker/insurer to work alongside the club to provide members’ insurance.
If any of you guys are driving an import you will know this affects your insurance in a big way even more so if you car is modified.
I spent ages this year trying to get insurance and came up with some really good deals managed to get a eunos 1.6 with quite a few mods for £420 and im only 23.
The two best companies i found were Sky insurance brokers & livingstone warman neither of them are the biggest companies in the world but there customer service is second to none. Oh and don’t be scared to barter this saved me £50!.
I tried to get a quote from AON as I’d seen them mentioned here, it was about £200 more than the average price on confused.com.
I’ve used Sky for my two previous cars and they were great - the people I spoke to were always friendly and efficient. They also offer a discounts for membership to loads of forums(one of the other MX5 ones amongst them).
Unfortunately they couldn’t provide a very good quote for my 5, so I think I’m going to go with www.greenlightinsurance.co.uk - They got great reviews on a Mini forum and are modification friendly. My quote from them was about £220 less than the one from Sky.
