I’ve just spoken to FJ for a quote for insurance for my intended purchase, a 91 Eunos. They told me that the classic insurance only covers vehicles over 20 years old. Is this correct? If so, their ad inside the cover of the club magazine is a bit rich me thinks. The quote was therefore on a modern policy only and was over £100 more than another a ‘non club’ insurance firm. So much for member benefits eh? [:(]
I have a policy with FJ and they were very competitive - it is not a classic policy. Because I have full NCB on my other car they gave me a quote of £130 tpft including £30 discount for being in MX5OC which basically paid for my membership! Also they had no problem with K&N airfilter, twin ss exhaust system, ss roll bars. Fully comp was about £300. Only downside is that you do not earn NCB on this policy. My fun car is a Eunos 1.8 i S LTD 1993. TPFT policy suits me at the moment but will go fully comp next year when more funds allow. See if they will do something similar - good luck. If you need any more help like policy name then let me know. Only started policy in November.
It`s 15 years with Adrian Flux so not sure why it would be differant. I paid £140 Fully Comp on a Classic policy with them (but im a Saga lout = 50+) Just renewed it for a second year for £160 with increased mileage allowance (3000 miles)
Hi, I will pass your comment on, and see if we can get some clarification. Previously the AON (nowFJ) Classic policy was available on all 5s, after all there aren’t many over 20 years old!!!
I’m with Adrian Flux as well. 1990 1.6 Eunos on a 5000 mile limited classic policy. £247 fully comp and I’m 36 and the car is garaged (+ I didn’t use my no claims discount with them because I use that on my 911). They beat everyone else hands down on price.
CP, Can you email me with your details please so I can pass on to a contact at FJ. They would like to investigate your enquiry which hopefully will then clear up this up and stop the same confusion from happening again. Thanks…
To email click on my user name… cheers… or respond to the email I sent you…[:D]
I received a letter from FJ today as it`s about a year since i contacted them for a quote. Based on last years information i gave them they will cover me for £314
That`s double what i am paying with Adrian Flux for the same cover…The OC discount would have to be damn good to match that.
Martin has been on the case and as a result I received a call from FJ apologising that the quote that they gave me (£342.75) didn’t include the club discount (15%). They have now quoted me £230.40! I’m not sure how they have arrived at that figure.
Also the policy is their ‘normal car insurance’ as opposed to their ‘classic’ insurance. I neglected to ask again about the 20 year classic rule.
I think that there is still some confusion - especially about the idea of classic insurance for 5’s, that might need clarifying.
Once again, thanks again for you help Martin. [:D]
I have now purchased the car (well chuffed!). I phoned Footman James to take out the policy as requoted … went through all of the details for a third time, so far so good, but I’d forgotten to write the reg number down before leaving home for the office this morning. No problem, they would call me back at 2pm to finish things off. 2.45 … no phone call. I call them and the guy that I spoke to earlier (the one supposed to call me back) is busy … So I go through all of the details a fourth time! … re check the price … its now much more than quoted … I explain the situation with regard to the owners club and their contact … they need to listen to the calls to see whats happened and to see how I was quoted the lower price … they will call me back!! I’ve just called Adrian Flux and paid the extra £5 for their insurance … I’m now covered and am waiting for a call from Footman James so that I can tell them where to shove their appalling service!! They seriously need to get themselves organised. [8o|]
Perhaps the OC need to flag this up, this is business that they have most definitely lost!!
Has anyone ever spoken to this person? I called the “direct line” and just got Footman James customer services, who didn’t know what I was talking about and refused to let me speak to or leave a message for Samatha Smith as she wasn’t in sales and it was nothing to do with her. She then offered to put me through to a sales adviser (again).
