Forgotten sports car?

Aye exactly.
Custom specced by the individual Squillionaire.
Mine is going to the proper dark '27 LeMans Bentley BRG, dark green vinyl roof, Cream hide, Walnut dash and cappings, 6 speeds, Supercharged of course.
I’ll let you know when it’s done.

Sounds like an ideal spec - just need some good numbers on the lottery!!! I am sure many of us would then spend a good chunk on some tassty motors. My first buy would be a red Ferrari Daytona… or an Aston V8 Vantage Volant from the mid 1980’s - same spec as your car… or a Ferrari Testarossa… or…

Just nipping down to the shop to buy a lottery ticket!!

I saw one of these only the once, in the River by Putney Bridge West London , it looked like it was only 2 bow waves away from sinking, not surprised it didn’t catch on.CAR BOAT

The Amphicar One lived near us a couple of decades ago, but I never had a go in it.

It would be a never ending task after each dip in the water!

That Fiat X19 reminds me a lot of a Reliant SS1 in styling.

How dare you sir :grinning: To me the SS1 looks like a kit car drawn with a blunt pencil whilst the X1/9 has clearly been created by a genius - How’s about that for an objective opinion

Just Googled the SS1, and I can see a resemblance, but the X1/9 is so much sharper and a much better looking car altogether, the TR7 was along similar lines, but for me anyway, didn’t have the style and presence of the older TRs like the TR5 and TR6 but designs were moving forward , even the Austin Princess was adopting the wedge shape

Austin

So rebuilt, restored, updated and uprated original Interceptors.
Nice…

The Princess looks a lot like the original design drawings for the Allegro, which are really quite pretty

Agree, for the time it was nice change from some of the often boxy or bulbous cars around at the time, although I didn’t think much of the All aggro. :grimacing:
But I also think the MK1 Escort looks better than the bland basic looking MK2 in which I passed my test in 1978 , but every car has its fans even the Trabant :slightly_smiling_face:
But if money was no object, there would be a whole bunch of sports cars on my list, a Morgan, TVR, Lotus Elise , Bristol Bulitt, pristine Fiat X1/9 and even a Mustang Convertable, etc etc  as well as a new MX5 :+1:

Talk of Jensen is an opportunity for me to mention my late friend’s gorgeous CV8 . A car whose looks polarise opinion , but actually I far preferred it to the rather louche looking Interceptor . John’s CV 8 was a lovely thing, leather luxury and a rumbling 6.2 litre Mopar V8 up front . He took it to the Run Wot Yer Brung at the drag strip , in company with my Seven .I have rarely seen a road car get more attention than the CV8 - nobody under 50 had a clue what it was - and for a 55 year old car it went pretty well, with SS 1/4 in low 16 seconds .

But the pre eminent Anglo American hybrid has to be the lovely. Giugiaro styled Gordon Keeble . A 5.3 Chevy V8 and 60 in the low sixes. A friend of a friend has offered me a drive in his , after reading my book , where I wax lyrical about the GK 1 . I look forward to doing that , in happier times .

Here’s a GK gk1

And here’s a CV8 cv8

Not so futuristic now

Noooo, I wish I hadn’t seen that :grimacing: that’s a sad ending for a once elegant and futuristic car, although it divided opinions.
Its like those Barn finds where they uncover an old Bugatti or some such covered in straw ,dust and ■■■■ :astonished:

A Kuwaiti Amphicar, being driven in the (salty) Gulf. Note the duct tape, and looking frilly around the back.

 a bit like Jeremy Clarksons Toyota that he crossed the channel in, covered in mastic and tape etc

I remember being in Manchester, outside a nightclub behind Kendals and a “yuppie” got into one of these being driven by a chauffer. It was the 1980’s but it looked so cool. Not sure he would have the same reaction now, but I suppose getting in one now would say a very different thing about the passenger…
