Free Flow Filter Changes

I’m currently using a Blitz induction kit mated to an ARC intake chamber and looking to run a cold air feed from the front of the car to the filter.  Initially I’d thought about ecclosing the filter in a housing connected to an air ram in the grill so whilst not going full FI I do get some benefit from the forward motion of the car.

Then I stumbled across this http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/remote-carbon-fibre-canister-air-filter–carbfil-861-p.asp and it’d save the hassle of making a housing plus I can sell the Blitz kit to get some money back.

Any thoughts/comments on running this filter connected via ducting to the front grill?

Looking at that filter, id reckon you would be better off staying with the Blitz system which will definately be better made and developed.

Have you though about raising the bonnet to increase cold air flow throughout the engine bay??(not a look everyone enjoys though).

Like you say iits not an attractive look and my bonnet rattles enough as it is!  Might look at making my own box to house the Blitz filter.  I like the “construction” bit of modifying so will give me something to think about for a while.

there is an instruction manual  think on flyin miata as to how to make an enclosure taking cold air from wing area of the car.

Be careful when designing the enclosure for the filter as bad design will restrict the air flow achievable, so although it may be cool you may remove power instead.

I have no experience of using the filter shown on the CBS site but I have used other makes of aftermarket filter setup which claimed to “performance” items. Invariably they had strangled the car’s intake and worsened performance rather than improved it.

If you can introduce colder air into a free flowing inlet tract then you stand a chance of increasing power rather than reducing it. The JRCAI kit which is always cited as the most efficient ot the aftermarket filter solutions, is effective because it shortens and cools the airflow path. Have you got any pics of your setup?
