front spotlights

Hi,I’ve just bought a mk2 nevada.it came with the cibie spotlights fitted (supplied by mx5 parts c/w wiring) but they have not been wired to work, there is no switch supplied with the kit.My question is can they be connected into the cars wiring loom ? do you/can you buy a switch similar to the rear fog light switch ? If so is it a Mazda part ? Any help would be much appreciated.cheers

You will need a relay to handle the high current to the spotlights, as well as wiring to the actual dashboard switch which takes a much lower current. 2 terminals on the relay are wired to make a circuit from the battery to the lights, and the other 2 terminals on the relay make a circuit to the dashboard switch.

Have a look in Halfords, they sell fitting kits for spotlights for about £10 that include the relay, switch and all the wiring (although this assumes the battery is under the bonnet and not in the boot - I’ve no idea where you can draw the 12v for the spotlights under the bonnet)

Hi tjay

will watch post as I intend to fit front fogs to my 1999 MK2, but I would be surprised if the wiring is not in the loom already, really cant see a manufacturer changing wiring looms for different models during manufacturer,

I’m sure someone with better 5 experience on this forum will let us know, I have looked for an MX5 front fog switch with no luck so was going to use the existing rear, to switch the relay if allowed for MOT ?

as per the live feed under bonnet, not sure as this is my 1st 5.
