Goodwood Festival of Speed

Good pictures you got Steve - did you see the RF in the end?

Thanks yet again to Iain for getting so many tickets for club members

Megan and I had a great day…other than the mudbath car park and the rain putting an end to our day at 3pm it was a brilliant experience

I feel honoured to have my name on the millionth mx5!

I have loads of photos from the day which i need to upload but personal davourite was the ND speedster

An interesting day…

I managed to see and do almost everything I wanted, including signing the ND (very badly), I recognised a few names who had beaten me to it and written much more clearly. It was a bit daunting trying to squeeze non-party-line info out of the various manufacturers about their cars (Focus, Civic, Mini, BMW small, Mazda3), some were more forthcoming than others, most will be sending me brochures.

The car I wasted too much time on was the 1962 E-type soft-top, 42,000 dry US miles immaculate and un-restored, and all as first sold with the original docs, tools, keys, etc (apparently). My photo is not much good however.

Except somehow I forgot to look for the RF. Perhaps because it is just not something I would ever buy, soft-top yes, PRHT yes, but something that is very close to being a glorified sun-roof, sadly no.

Travelling was another thing altogether! I don’t think I’ll bother with Goodwood again. We managed to get there in the end, after assorted delays and detours, and it was sort of dry, for a while, but walking shoes and waterproofs were also a worthwhile precaution and sure enough as forecast the rain began at 3 and soon after that we left. And once inside the M25 we were slammed by the gridlock because of the blocked M40 - I live just off it! At least I knew some useful rat runs to avoid the M25, but close to home it was simply impossible, the last three miles took almost two hours.

And then the garden was flooded…
Oh well.

Agree as above!

That ND Speedster is simply gorgeous. Totally impractical I’m sure, but then so are a lot of our Mk1’s too and who cares!

Hi Helen

I trust you, Chris & your Japanese friend had a good time? I must admit that I got somewhat carried away in some of the other stands and then the Supercar enclosure before the torrential rain came and I decided to call it a day. Even by 3pm it felt like I had walked for a good few miles, so I’m embarrassed to admit that I didn’t get a look at the RF.

But the Speedster made up for it. Love it! Mind you, I do remember seeing the Mk1 version that Gareth (aka MX5 Restorer) made a few years ago and that was incredible too.

Cheers

Steve
