I’m Dimitris and I own my NA already for 20 years now. I spent almost a decade living in Germany and during those years the car has been mostly sitting in my garage. Once I relocated back to Greece, I spent some time playing around with the idea of selling it but …No . A few months back I started the process to get it back to running condition and -who knows- maybe I get to see my kids drive it sometime in the future
The car has been serviced and is running fine. I’m working on a few things here and there, mostly replacing doors and hood seals, tracking a leak in the rain rail, replacing the rods in the pop-ups and a few other stuff relatively minor. I’m also considering replacing the steering wheel with a Nardi one, but other than that I want to keep the car mostly stock.
I’ll be posting a couple of issues I’m having, so let’s keep this post just for the intros. Here are a few pics once it was serviced a couple of weeks ago and got to drive her for the first time after 10 years - one of the best decisions I ever made . Cheers
Thank you! The body work has a kind of history… The car was re-painted in 2017 as we wanted to use it as the bride’s car in my wedding Unfortunately, the quality is not that good on close inspection (a few drips in the belt moulding on the doors and black covers of the pop-ups) plus a few chips due to the burning sun (since the wedding the car was left in a parking spot with a sunroof hood but hey nothing beats 42C in Athens midsummer). I will try to remove the drips and repaint the chipped spots and see how it will hold up. Maybe I decide in a few years to do a full re-paint. The plan is to keep it from now on in a closed garage, so I try to be optimistic on how it will hold up.
Looks an excellent solid survivor so far.
Very possibly worth a few well targeted Euros put into it.
The Big Thing is the so called chassis " Money Shot" underneath…as usual!
Well it’s clear you love your NA from your attention to detail on what still needs doing e.g. ‘a few drips in the belt moulding’ etc
I’ve found it interesting to read about problems keeping an MX-5 in the heat [42C !!] as opposed to us in the UK where we are totally pre-occupied protecting ours from cold and bad weather
Spent part of my childhood in Singapore and do remember driving a hire car in Menorca so …duh…thinking about it…of course there will be challenges in the heat for an MX-5
One thing I can say for certain is you will find like minded folk on this forum
Currently waiting in a queue to get Bullit some new rear wheel arches and a respray but attach a pic from 2009 when I’d had her a couple of years…[friend insisted she wanted to see a pic so no time to beautify her beforehand]
This is actually what I like in this forum (apart from the excellent technical setup). I see that people here tend to leave aside this AI crap and it still seems like a human-friendly community with people willing to offer some help. I’ve seen several forums dying or just being inactive simply because everyone nowadays resolves to gpt and the like.
We actively discourage that, we’re looking for answers from personal experiences rather than what an algorithm predicts may be correct (and often isn’t).
However we then get massively scraped as the various AI bots take that lived experience and…
