Looking to purchase a quality grille. Quality is the main priority and have read about flimsy grilles from certain companies and would like to avoid!! Needs to be black and I have a mk 2.5. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks!

Why not make one yourself and then you can have any design you like on it. You will have something a little different from everyone else. The main tool you need is a hand held jig saw.
This is a picture of one of a few that I have made from aluminium sheet. I have never had any problems with air flow to the radiator either.
Thanks for the idea (and liking yours) but a combination of a complete lack of creativity and ability means that making my own is a bit of a non starter.
Pollyanna you are awesome!
Where do I buy alluminium sheet from (and what thickness do I ask for) and how do I attach my new grille once made?
That is so cool!
How long did it take you?
Ask for 2.5mm thick aluminium. To cut the shape and all the holes etc it now takes me about 7 hours, with the special brackets that I make for fastening it in place. The brackets I made for the one in the picture were made to be able to have the grill nearer to the front of the mouth.
I buy 2.5mm thick aluminium sheet as the thicker it is the better to work with IMHO.
I buy my sheet aluminium from the places that make aluminum trailers and horseboxes. Usually they are offcuts but occasionally I have to buy larger pieces because of what off cuts they may have. A piece that is just large enough to cut a grill from should be about £5.00
I sooo need to fit mine.
Christmas holidays are coming soon so I should have the time then.
Here is a mock up of what it could look like fitted:
And the actual thing (thanks to Pollyana for finishing it for me)
I’m considering putting the Japanese naval flag back on it using the same grey vinyl as the stripes.
