H.T leads

Has anyone an opinion on wether or not expensive H.T. leads (eg Magnecor) are worth the extra money over standard ones? Do they produce any significant improvement in performance? if not what are the advantages?

I’ve had the standard black Mazda leads on for the last 10k miles with no problems. My SC was fitted during that time and the leads are still fine

Where can you get Mazda leads (except, presumably, a dealer)?  I think my 4- year old Magnecors are on the way out - slight hesitation under hard acceleration.

I’m afraid i dont know where you can get original leads from apart from dealer. I replaced original leads at 50000 about 4 years ago with set from mx5parts which they said are of similer spec to original, have lasted til now and my car is up to 130000 so quite happy with them. Think they are ready for replacement though because can be seen lighting up in a dark garage!  Borrowed another mk 2 recently with same engine as mine and felt much faster and more responsive than mine. only difference in spec to mine were magnecor leads and a 6 speed box.  may be just the closer ratios making the difference but tempted to try higher spec leads to see if they improve my cars responsivenes.

I replaced mine with more expensive ones. I only replaced as the set on mine car were knackered and I am always of the opinion that every replacement should be an upgrade.

Mine runs a lot smoother and starts easier now. As I say, I think this is only because the old leads were rotten.

The new ones are red though, probably worth at least 5bhp I reckon! [6]
