Hard top noise

Have a look behind the plastic access hatch in the bulkhead behind the passenger seat. I found the pinch bolt for the outer cable was loose when I got my car at 3 years old. Loctite added and bolt tightened. No issues since.

Hi, Had a look but all bolts & nuts OK. I did find a small electrical unit with SMART TOP written on it. Will google to see what is does.

David

Hi , I do have a SMART TOP after all. What would happen if I disconnected it.

David

It will just go back to the normal setting when you have to be stopped to open and close it.

I don’t know how long you have owned the car.
But “I wonder whether the roof has been opened when the car has been travelling too fast and the wind may have caught it and bent/damaged something”? (Another thread where some chaps seemed out of alignment, so may be more applicable to that thread maybe?).
With the Smart Top controller you can change the settings to open and close at various speeds up to 38mph!! (So the manual states). That would be absolutely madness if anyone does that in my opinion. Likewise, you can adjust when and how it opens. i.e by releasing the roof catch or pressing the buttons.
I will try and find the link for you.

Hi, thanks for your input. I have only had car 4 months. There was no fob for the Smarttop so have not used it. If I remove the Smart top unit as far as I can see there will be a male connection block and no where to connect it to.
David

No fob.
It just works within the system as normal.
The original plug and unit is male/female.
The controller is extended as in male/female.
So if you remove the complete controller you just plug the car loom unit back into the system unit if that makes sense? :+1:

The smart top has a female one end and a male on the other so it just inserts into the loom after the mazda plug is disconnected. You dont need a fob to operate the smart top but it can be configured to lower the roof when the roof latch is opened or when the roof ower button is pressed. You can plug the smart top module into a computer with a usb c cable and alter settings. Worth reading the manual on the mods4cars website. You can also alter settings using the roof buttons but i imagine thats a bit of a faff

Hi , thanks for the info. I will try to take off the Smart Top after a good look at the loom and with fingers crossed.

David

Hi thanks for the info. I will try to remove it after a good look at the loom with fingers crossed. Can I connect the Smart Top to a lap top while it is still connected to car loom ?
