Can anyone help me in the North East area please. I’ve bought a hardtop for the MX5 but need to know whether I can fit it into the rear of my Saab 95 Estate as I have to collect it. Is there anyone local who has a hard top willing to see if I can get it into my Saab. I’m really not wanting to travel and collect it in the MX5 due to the winter weather hence the question…
Where abouts are you in the north east? There are plenty of us with hardtoips and i’m sure there’ll be someone who won’t mind helping you out, but will be best to let us know where abouts you are.
If you can’t find anyone nearer then your quite welcome to come over and try mine, I’m in Billingham. Its sat in the back room so isn’t on the car at the minute.
Ayr’s a bit of a trek, there seem to be a few knocking about at the minute, can’t you get one a little closer?
I need to pick up the hardtop Saturday, so anyone willing to help me see if I can fit a hardtop into my Saab Estate, I’d be really grateful…Starting to look like a 400mile round trip in the MX5 on nasty winter roads…
This may not be the best of help Mark but I am in Scotland so cant do much else.
I can tell you that I have fitted the hardtop for an MX5 and an MGTF in the back of a Vectra estate without any hassle at all. INfact the MG hardtop was a bit more cumbersome than the 5’s but went in easy enough.
Not sure if this will give you any further insight but thought it was worth mentioning - might be worth googling the boot dimensions of the vectra (55 plate) against the Saabs to give you a better idea if no one can help.
This is interesting…Can you take a pic of the hardtop in your vectra? All I need is physical evidence I can fit a hardtop in…The vectra is based on the Saab 95 floor pan (with tweaks as suspension is different) so could you pretty please confirm the diagonal of the tailgate opening for me? I just can’t imagine how I can fit the hardtop in looking at dimensions, but if I have a pic or something to see one in, I’ll just take the Saab to collect it.
Hardtop collected yesterday and very happy. Small bit of edge damage above the drivers window but nothing that can’t be fixed with a bit of gelcoat and my airbrush…Certainly quieter and warmer. Just need a rear window lead and switch…
So the round trip was just over 400miles…spent together with my wife on valentines day…awwww! Lovely views over the Pennines with much of the day on dry roads. A little damp south of Ayr but overall a smashing day out. We managed to get a smidge over 36mpg (I’ve just seen the thread about 18mpg…ouch!!) - as I’ve just serviced the ‘Classic’ so it’s running great again.
