The heat shield on my 94 1.8 roadster seems to be vibrating (almost like a catching sound) when i hit about 3000rmp and then goes soon after. Firstly is there any temporary “quick fix” I could administer to shut the god-damn thing up for a while, secondly my M.O.T is due at the end of the month is it likely to fail because of this?

Rods MX5 manual suggests that if the heat shield is knocking then the cat is soon to fail?

  I guess you are speaking about the Cat heat shield and not the exhaust manifold one?

Try a couple of big Jubillee clips
