I’m new to MX5s so excuse me if I’m asking a silly question but when I press the accelerator there is a noticable ‘whoosh’ from the area around the intake manifold. Is that normal?[:S]
If it’s not, what is the likely cause and how do I fix it? It sounds to me like perhaps the manifold gasket has blown but it might be normal on MX5s [^o)], like I said I’m new so am finding a few quirks to my mk1 which means I already love it.

Can you give a bit more detail around the “woosh”
Is it a nice airflow going through the exhaust attractive woosh or an oh crap I have a hole in my exhaust woosh?

The sound is like air being drawn in/escaping from somewhere around the intake manifold rather than sucked through the air filter -> pipe route, or a blowing exhaust.
I’m planning to check the tightness of the intake bolts this weekend as the engine is ‘loping’ a bit and our friend Mr.Haynes suggests this may be a cause. Suck it and see.
