Hello, I am a new member, and wonder if anyone could advise engine oil question. My car is 1992 Eunos, 77K Miles. Not used for a year, and to be honest only started a few times in this period. HLA was fairly tappety at cold, lasts quirte a while until warm, possibloy due to oil finding its way around, did not notice clatter when last used. Question of oil type is confusing, just want to reduce/eliminate HLA clatter, I do not push the engine, (must be getting old). Three considerations, Tesco Fully synthetic 5W/40, Castrol Magnatec or a standard branded 10W/30 oil.
Does any one of these really give any benefit in reduction of HLA clatter ?
Finally, is there a group in Warwickshire ?
Dave.
G’day mate, welcome to the Forum
If you read through some of the posts in the general faq, there is some stuff about oils. I use Mobil 1 fully synthetic 5W/50 and get no HLA rattle with my 1990 Roadster.
These guys are probably closest to you. A very lively bunch and friendly too…enjoy
Hello Geoff, Thank you for a speedy response, I did look at the FAQ, and as you state Mobil 1 is one that states elimination of HLA clatter, it was just my thougt that possibly I should use a 10W 30 or just cheaper Tesco Fully synthetic.Looks like Mobil 1 may be the one I will choose. Re the filter, I have a Mahle OC 237/1 which was a spare that came with the car, not sure if thgis has a feature to stop oil back feeding when at rest, have heard that the oil filter choice is again quite important to reduce clatter.
Best regards,
Dave.
Hello and welcome Dave[:)]
Enjoy the car!

Hi Dave, I always use the Mazda genuine filter, only costs a few cents more and you know it is the one for the job
