Finally, after putting it off for a while, its time to bite the bullet and buy a 5! I have looked at a few over the past few months (looking for an early Mk2) and think I’ve found a good one (S regd, 1.8S, some history) for its age and price. It will be used as my everyday car for a 10 mile commute.
Looking forward to meeting fellow MX5 owners in the Beds, Bucks, Herts area
Thanks to all of you for making me so welcome! as soon as I’ve bought a car and done some minor fettling I will take some photos. In the meantime I will be scouring the forum for good advice.
How much are you paying Nigel? If I buy back my old Mk1 tomorrow I will be selling a beautiful Twilight (MIdnight) Blue S-Reg Mk2 1.8 that has belonged to a fellow owner here for a few years, has full service history and runs like a dream, so you may want to hang on 24 hours for that. PM me if interested and I will tell you by end of tomorrow if I have to part with it.
All, I have just become an owner of a racing green 1.6i, 1998, S reg 5!. Having done all the usual checks and treated the dealer to a 30 mile test drive, the car seems to be in good condition for it age (and what i paid for it). The car was originally Irish registered, but came into the UK in early 1999, only spending 4 months in the Republic.
The car isn’t immaculate, but does appear to be sound and has already put a smile on my face! There is some damp in the boot which will be the first thing to work on - anyone had similar experiences?
Can’t wait to pick the car up on Friday!
Paul & Katie - thank for you message, that car sounded great, unfortunately I’d already handed over my deposit on my green 5!
I will very possibly see you on the roads around Beds DaveBRG5!
I’m in Leighton Buzzard area but travel to Milton Keynes daily. Certainly looking forward to picking the car up and getting to know it better. I did have a shock though when arranging insurance as my current insurer said the registration belonged to a Mercedes CLK! Seems the operator put the wrong number in their system and all is well now:)
I think the damp may be either a seal leak or drain tube, either way it doesnt too bad at the moment. I am amazed by the knowledge and helpfulness of people in here.
