Help or Information needed please

Hi and a belated Merry Christams!

Having just moved to Cambridge, we have developed a problem with the ‘other’ car and I would be grateful for any help or advice that could be offered.  The ‘other’ car is a ‘W’ reg Mazda Premacy and it has recently developed a problem with intermittent low revs and hesitancy.  To explain, you could be driving along when the revs drop and there is no power when accelerating - in fact, you can’t really accelerate at all which is proving to be a problem.  This can happen at any revs and speed and it doesn’t matter if the engine is cold or warm.  Since then, the exhaust fell off, and changing that including a new cat has made no difference whatsoever.  Does anyone have any suggestions to the problem, or know of a garage in the Cambridge area with access to an ECU reader that will not rip us off?

Thank you in advance.

Happy New Year!!![G]

EMG Mazda in Cambridge, and book an appointment with our very own Roadster Robbie, (Rob Marsh)

Thanks, had thought about that!!  Has become a bit more pressing as we drove 60 miles yesterday and went through almost half a tank of petrol so we’re guessing a fuel regulation problem??  Will need to get sorted ASAP.

Sounds like the engine management has gone into ‘limp home’ mode. A diagnostic check should show what caused that. Had a similar problem with our Polo. Started running like a dog, no acceleration and drinking fuel. Diagnostics showed up two problems - a failed oil pressure sensor and  - I’ve forgotten what the other was. Another sensor of some sort anyway. With both sorted it’s actually running better than it did before

I took it to an independent auto electrician who came recommended and he sorted it more quickly and cheaply than I’d been expecting. Wish I’d taken it to him sooner but fear of the unknown meant I ran it on ‘limp home’ for several weeks. False economy as the fuel bill was horrendous compared to the cost of the fix.

Premacy 1.8L Petrol? I’d guess at coil pack failure.
