Hi from Shetland

Hi, just registered for the forum tonight after a few weeks of browsing through the different sections. As you can see I am based in the frozen North which does not lend itself to open top motoring!!

However, to get to the point. I am looking to purchase an MX5 in the near future in order to try and have a bit of fun in a car before I get past it. Had the big bikes and had to give them up just in case the licence went west or I had a coming together with the tarmac (I don’t bounce as well as I used to)

There is a lot of good info on the site and I am rapidly getting to grips with the various specs etc, will go and post in a couple of other sections now as I would like a bit of info if possible.

Hope to be a regular visitor here folks.

p.s. Would be glad to know if there is anyone else registered from Shetland.

 G’day mate, welcome to the Forum

A long way away now, but I lived up there for a while in 1965, stationed at Saxa Ford on Unst. As I remeber it, there is only one main road on Zetland?

 Hello there! By the way, the only time you are “past it” is when you have stopped breathing!

Happy 5ing.

Hello from Aberdeenshire, check out http://www.mx5scotland.co.uk/ for details of cars for sale at the other end of the ferry run. Not aware of anyone else registered on this or the Scottish forum from Shetland.

Hi Geoff and thanks for the welcome, it’s a small world, I never thought I’d hear from someone as far away as yourself that had actually been in Shetland. I think you would see some changes in the place now, it has come in to the 20th century. Oil has played a big part in the isles economy and so we have some of the best roads about. Can you remember any names from your RAF days as I know a couple of lads stationed there in the 60s’/70s’.

Thanks for the welcome Joanne, and the little morale boost (I’m still breathing so must have a bit of a spark left in me yet) Hopefully the purchase of 5 will re-invigorate me.

Thanks for the info Ian, I have been watching the Scottish forum too and in fact e-mailed the guy about the red Eunos  in Dalgety Bay (richsawko) but he replied saying he had sold it. Looking at one at Global Automobiles just now, looks nice but a long way to go  and it may not be as smart as pics show.

Turbo… not sure what your non forum name is [:)] I have emailed one of the local owners who did have his car up for sale, not sure if he has moved it or not, will post back if it is still available;

The car is a nice one as featured in the link below;

Update, it was sold recently, never mind another one will be along in a minute [H]

Thanks for the help Ian, got my eye on one at a garage in Lancashire. Had a sit in one today at work after I found out an employee had one, and as I was working in her office I seized the opportunity to speak to her about it. She is very impressed with her 5 and said it was great fun. I am also considering a 5 in Yorkshire but don’t want to make a hasty decision.
