HLA Chatter

All this business about HLA chatter etc, is it normal for them to rattle a bit when first the engine fires up and then quieten down. Why is it that some people seam to have this chatter/rattle all the time and others like myself, it starts when the engine is fired up but after driving the car out of the garage, about 4 meters, it then stops.

Wrong oil or just clogged HLAs (infrequent oil changes, maybe driving too gently).

The Wynn’s stuff really works, although I’d be wary of leaving it in the engine long-term, so I’d add it a couple of weeks before an oil change.

It’s really a comment on a poor service record, long oil change intervals, wrong oil type etc. I hate additives and never use them, except for a very occasional can of Wynns flush stuff at oil change time [about every 3 years]. My engine has shown no sign of HLA rattle since changing to Mobil 1 5W50.

Further to my initial question, when I have the cam cover off for a bit of intense polishing I pour a little oil all over the cams etc before I replace the cam cover. I never get HLA clatter then when I fire up. It just seams to happen for a few seconds while I reverse the car out of the garage and then it goes quiet.

I seem to remember that you use Magnatec oil Polly? If so try a sump full of Mobil 1 5w/50 fully synthetic at the next change. Does the job for me
