Now I bet you are all going to think I am a total numpty but …
When I connect my ipod nano to the ipod lead in my glove box I cannot seem to select what I want to hear !!!
It seems to make its own mind up and plays what IT wamts not what I want !! I have tried selecting the music and then connecting the lead… no joy it just seems to select something at random and plays it. I am able to advance through some form of list (I suspect its a list of recently played but cannot be sure)
Don’t worry you are not alone, its probably the worst designed Ipod control system EVER!
I ripped mine out fairly quickly and bought this replacement from MX5 parts which allows you to change the track ON the Ipod in addition to the head unit. And then I changed to the next unit which adds bluetooth (although this has minor flaws and is not perfect).
anyway in the mean time, you should get an instruction booklet with the car but heres the basics
The stereo display should show ‘EX’ and then by pressing and holding for 2 sec the Disc Up button you will be able to flick through the menu. The ‘time’ values change and correspond to different menu options e.g. 1’00’’ = playlists 2’00" = artists 3’00 = albums 4’00 = tracks 5’00 = genres 6’00 = composers. The best way to use the ipod is to save playlists onto it through iTunes and then choose option 1, and then by pressing Disc Up or Down you will move through your playlists. Otherwise it will just play your tracks alphabetically depending on which one of the other menu options you have selected.
Thanks for the info. I was begining to think it was me being fick !!!
I have checked through the handbook and it has two tenths of three fifths of f*** all about operating an ipod! Radio,CD,MP3, Mini disc all covered in detail but ipod ?? Nah !!!
I dont really want to change my head unit as its the all singing all dancing (& bloody expensive) super dooper whizzo original fit Bose jobby and I really like the output from it. (except of course when I want to listen to my ipod)
I will have a play later and see if I can get anywhere !!! perhaps I should descend on my local dealer and ask him how to do it, seeing as how they sold me the car !!
You do not need to replace the head unit, just the ipod part (which is only plugged in the back of the head unit) and you have a much easier system to use with you exisiting BOSE system.
The same applies with the bluetooth model of Ipod adaptor.
Many have made the change to be honest and it is far better.
Thanks for that it looks like a brilliant bit of kit !!!
On reading the info thouroughly I have discovered that it will operate everything except a 4th generation ipod.
Guess what generation mine is ??? (just had to be didnt it)
Looks like its down to the liitle FM transmitter that I use to access the ipod when we are out and about in our motor home. It works just fine but I would have prefered to have had it as “plug & play”
