How low can you go?

Hi, I did a little experiment recently to see how much fuel was left in my ND when it shows 0 miles.

I let the reading go down to 0 miles then filled the tank completely up to the first automatic trigger release. The reading was 37.8 litres.

If the tank capacity is 45 litres, then that must mean there was over 7 litres still in the tank when it was showing 0 miles. Thats a good 50 miles left in the tank, which is somewhat reassuring.

Unintentionally I have tested this recently too. The tank took in just over 38 liters when refilling, very similar to your results.

I’m not surprised. I’ve always felt that the tank takes less fuel than it should when filling up and taking into account the tank’s stated capacity, the car’s economy, and the supposed remaining range.

Only last Tuesday I managed 39.31 litres, fuel was visible in the filler neck. Absolute and irrefutable evidence that we all have at least 50 miles left in the tank when the little Japanese man indicates that the ‘COMPUTER SAYS NO’.

Is that 45 useable litres?

This low…and it still wasn’t empty!! I did fill up with 42.95L (visible in the neck) though…

One photo was before I drove to work in the morning, the other was at the petrol station down the road from my flat after I drove home :see_no_evil:

That is low!

Don’t think I would risk it without a spare can in the boot.

No really consistent with Mazda minimising weight philosophy. That’s a good few kg of completely wasted mass.

I have had the needle past the 0 before :see_no_evil:
