How to back flush the cooling system?

Hi,

 I am getting pretty poor heat from the heater, the radiator top and bottom hose get hot, so I think I may have gunk inside the system that is partially blocking the heater matrix. Can anyone please give me a step by step guide to back flushing the cooling system?
