I need powers of deduction.

OK my car has caught the february sniffles :frowning: Recently (most notably yesterday) the following happens.
I Drove from work to my parents house (40 minute drive), got to their house turned the car off, popped inside for 5 minutes  came back out to my car started it, reversed out the drive…thunk the engine stops dead, battery charge light is on, start the car again…it’s all a bit hesitant but keeping my foot down it’s ok…i then get 500 yards further down the road and effectively foot hasn’t moved on the accelerator pedal but i start losing power, the tacho is telling me i’m doing a solid 3000 rpm, but the engine clearly isn’t. a further 500 yards down the road the fault has cleared itself.

Suggestions…i think i know what it is, but i want to hear your opinions first. Particularly saz’s and mr waltons.

Sounds like the coil pack or the wiring around it

 That was my suspicion…

I’m thinking, engine off, heat soak to the coil pack, mucks itself up on startup till it cools back down. Does that sound right?

Yep, that’s what I reckon, the giveaway is the rev counter which is driven by the coil pack
