Ok I’m going to kick off this thread, I would like to propose the idea to do a evening / night drive in the summer through London, we’ve got some great buildings in London and one of the best ways to see them is with the your roof off, ( yes i have been know to tap my tin cap off ) the stereo on and a warm summers evening. I’m thinking of a route, that will take in as many sites as possible. At the moment the places I was think are in no particular order…
Canary Wharf
Buckingham Palace
The Mall
Pic Circus
Hyde Park Corner
The embankment ( one of my faves )
Westminster ( houses of parliment )
St Pancreas Station
Natural History Building
Girkin
City of London
Marble Arch
Battersea Power Station
The Strand
Trafalgar Square
Slone square
Tower Bridge
I proposed this a few months back we were looking at maybe a run through london, all the places you have mentioned,as i drive around london every day i am waiting for all the road works to clear as many of the sites also have scaffolding or something covering them,i have spoken to other club members about this.
Great stuff. Let’s have some more ideas from everyone and, hopefully if you know all about it you can organise it too.
I’m happy to handle all the communication.
The January Club meeting will be a 2009 planning meeting and I will put out a note to all. This can be the first on the list. I’ll put a STICKY on this Forum and as the ideas come in I’ll consolidate them there.
Yes Les, remember our conversation about this and what a good idea we thought it would be. In fact was speaking to Graham about it the other night and that is what has prompted the post. What with you being a ‘seasoned’ London driver and Graham being a ‘townie’ I reckon we could be on to a winner! Just need to give some thought to route and ‘catch up’ points’.
Another idea I have is to maybe do a run to the Ace Cafe one evening. I haven’t got a clue about the feasibility as yet but friends of mine go up there regularly with the Porsche Owners Club; I’ll dig around for some information.
I went on a couple of drives through London with the Eastern Region. One of them was on New Years Day and it was fantastic, the roads were empty and we got to see a lot of London’s landmarks. The second one was horrible! It was really, really busy, every cab driver seemed to head straight for me and in the end I got so annoyed that we left!! I said I wouldn’t go on another drive through London ever again, but may be pursuaded depending when this one will be?
I just had an idea for a drive. How about a drive to Southend seafront? We could all meet somewhere and drive the way I usually go, through Benfleet, Leigh, Westcliff, etc and park up somewhere for ice cream/fish & chips/arcades (if you’re as big a kid as me!!) and maybe drive back a different way or something?
I recognise that car[;)]
Sounds like a plan. How about drafting a route and proposing a date. I will add it to the list and we can discuss at the January Club Night.
Ok then. All I can do for now is say that it’ll happen when it’s a bit warmer, and I’ll sort the route out nearer the time. Everything’s a bit hectic right now with Christmas and everything!
Sure, I was intending on doing the run in the summer and on a evening, so there’s plenty of time to work out a route, but if you want to do something in the new year, I’m happy to join you.
