Hello, my wife has a Jap Import 2001 MX5 1,590cc auto, she’s had it for two years trouble free till last February. She was stopped at the lights and the car wanted to cut out, it didnt, just the revs dropped, so I took out the plugs and they were black with petrol so I fitted a new set, same problem happened a few weeks later, so I cleaned the plugs , I removed the air hose on the trottle body and the inside was black, so I cleaned it with carb cleaner and the car seemed to be fine till yesteday. Took the plugs out and they were black with petrol, I got a red led and followed the instruction s from an earlier question re dianostics box, I connected the led to FEN & B+, turned Ign on and the led lite up, I connected a piece of wire from TEN to GND and the led went out, is this normal? The car idels and drives perfect until this probelm occurs. Any suggestions please? Thank you! YEAH!

Hi and thanks for the replies, I disconnected the neg on battery, pressed the brake for five seconds, connect battery back, drove the car, put led in dio box, turned ign on, led lite up, connect wire and led went out? No flashing of led? What am I doing wrong.
Regarding my idel problem could it be the water temp sensor at the rear of the head under neath the coil pack? Thanks. YEAH!

ive had some fairly similar issues to yourself and using the diagnostic test you carried out i had a faulty water engine temp sensor issue.
did you connect ground and ten before connecting the other wires? may not make any diff…
