For something close to an MX5 but with a roof a GT86 or BRZ

This, in a nutshell.
With good reason.
Mine.
Or was…
Impossible to get a decent one now worth having for less than 5/6k for a basic 1.6 Laser or an Injection for 10k+, or a Brooklands for 15K plus.
A nice Audi TT quatro please

My old Honda Fireblade, but the GF would probably kill me, if the bike didn’t first…!
Aldi
My old Peugeot 205 1.9l GTI, but as that was murdered by a mobile using “White Van Man” I’d like a Nissan 370Z please!
My BMW 330D M Sport Auto is a great driver’s car. Stunning performance with reasonable economy.
One of those is within your budget, too.
Nissan 350Z for me. Low to the ground, planted, plenty of grunt and japanese reliability. Just watch the heavy right foot!!
Fantastic car, I own one
Honda S2000
Still top down motoring, plenty of interior room, decent build quality so fewer rust issues, and quite fast car for it’s size. I chose the MX5 over the Honda, but if there were no MX5 then it would be the Honda for me.
no ,sorry .You want a 1970 Vauxhall Viva 2 .0 GT , awesome!
Ah right!

I did not own one, but I was insured to drive my Uncles.
It was mental…in a widow-making terminal way.
Looking back over the cars I’ve owned, selecting one that I really liked a lot, and that had some characteristics of the MX5, I’d go for a BMW Compact 1.8Ti. It was similar in that it was a little under powered but had superb road holding and could be driven flat out all day long.
I’ve owned many more powerful saloons and sports cars but the BMW compact was one of the quickest A to B drives. Maybe there is a 1-series BMW with the same qualities, but I’ve never owned one of these so I don’t know.
As for bigger BMW’s, still great cars but feel heavy, and my 2.8i Capri was great fun too, but for the wrong reasons. On anything other than a dry road they were very twitchy on the back end.
An ex-colleague of mine was a police advanced driving instructor. I turned up at work in my first BMW and he told me “Now you’ve gone and done it!”. I asked him what he meant. He said “Once you’ve owned one, no matter what type of car you buy afterwards, you’re only ever between BMWs”.
He was right, I’m now on my fourth. A Volvo came in between, but not for long.
