Hello! I took delivery of my gorgeous Splash Green MX-5 last week (OK by delivery is sounds new - its a 52) I absolutely love it! Before I had a Peugeot 206cc, which I have nothing bad to say about, but the MX-5 is in a different league! I have a few questions though like what does the VT stand for? And should I join the club? I see you have a meet in Brighton this weekend.
Welcome Welcome… dont know about the VT but yes you should definately join the club [:D]
Welcome to the site
Join the club? Well, it’s your choice, but I would say so. You’ll get an award winning magazine every two months, a selection of discounts for being a club member, and of course all of the clubs activities and runs will be open to you. (Note that most regions are happy for you to go along a couple of times to see if it is your thing or not).
It’s not a lot of money, and can easily pay for itself through insurance discounts and parts discounts, and even if it doesn’t you’ve still got a decent magazine and helped to support the forum.
I’m not too sure about VT, perhaps variable timing, but that’s a stab in the dark really.
The VT is an interesting one… not sure why on the V5 doc it has 1.8S and alost VT Sport. I am sure I will get to the bottom of it. I shall look at joining the club once January is out the way. It looks fun! Downside is I have just sorted my insurance out for the year, so I wont benefit with that. I am not massively into the mechanics etc - I just want a pretty car to take the roof down and listen to Britney!
Welcome along to the forum and MX5 ownership.
You have many years of amazing to come.
As for joining the club i’d say a definate yes !!
welcome aboard

Welcome to SE region, hope to see out and about.

G’day mate, Welcome to the Forum
The leymans version of this is
the VT bit is S-VT which is Sequential Valve Timing which takes the power of the 1.8 up to 146bhp at 7,000 rpm and 124lbs of torque at 5,000rpm.
Basically this is the most powerful normally aspirated (not got a turbo or supercharger) engine they fitted to the 5 up until then. The previous 1.8 had 140bhp.
You dont need to worry about it really it just makes the engine a little more powerful and a little more efficient then the previous version. Its meant to improve drivability at different speeds.
If you were to look at the power and torque output of the engine plotted on a graph, you would see it has a little blip in the normally smooth curve as the engine switches to a different setting higher up the rev range.
This is to try to give you a best of both world type of setting. One for down low and one for higher up the revs.
Sorry if this is not the full technical answer but I think close enough
Welcome to the OC, enjoy your 5
Thanks for that - very useful to know. I cant wait to use it!

If it’s like last year, we’ll be driving down the A259 from the Shoreham direction and aiming for Maderia Drive and would probably get there for about 12:00-12:30 but we can’t be sure…[:O]
I don’t think you’ll miss us…[;)]
See you there…[Y]
Opps…[:$]
