So has the case been closed with your insurers, or is it on going?
If it is on going, then you don’t have much choice other than staying with who you are with, or risk cancelling a policy, but it really depends on your luck. A company could give you a good quote with a recorded claim, but be uncompetitive if you become claim free.
It might not be as bad as you think - some insurers will pay more attention to the circumstances of the accident, so you’ll find some a lot cheaper than others.
Thanks for your reply. It’s still ongoing. The accident was nothing sinister - a lorry clipped me as I began to reverse into a parking space on a high street. He blames me but didn’t report it to his insurers. I say he appeared from nowhere and tried to squeeze through the gap as I began top reverse. Police said, ‘Let insurers fight it out!’ Car should be ready within a week or two. Will make a few calls for quotes.
Were you actually moving backwards? If so, you might manage to get away with a 50:50 claim, but I assume that it is just a case of your word against his (ie no witnesses)
If you were stationary, then I cannot see how they can put blame on you, especially if you were indicating (having reversing lights on would count) - contact a few lawyers and see if they feel confident that they could be succesful.
