Is Footman James really still the club insurance co. ?

FJ need to be spoken too or else displaced or at the very least re-competed for the designation of Club insurance company.

I’ve just done an online quote with FJ.  What a joke!   They quoted me £1276 for my 1.8 Sport with 5 years NCD, no claims, no convictions, 40 years full license, only do 4000 miles a year.

I live in London and expect it to be a bit higher, but not that high.  It’s more than twice that of my present insurer.  Ridiculous, needless to say I won’t be going with them.Shock

Are the powers that be reading these comments, We are not the only club being quoted high premiums by Footman James perhaps they feel they have the club scene sown up. Its Time we gave them the elbowThumbs DownWavingHitting head on wall

Furthermore, its not just the premiums, just found out my Wife has been driving for the last 6 days with no insurance. They are investigating and retreiving the phone call I made on the 1st of November. This is the second occasion she has been left with no insurance, will be moving on renewal. It appears they are cherry picking to the extreme, giving ridiculous quotes in higher risk areas and good quotes in very low risk areas, not the way to run an insurance company for the membership as we live all over the place. The quote to the guy in London IS SCANDALOUS.As a club we should approach FJ immediatley and demand to know what is going on.

I was very happy with my FJ insurance. £280 on my 94’ Eunos. I’m 27, held a clean license for 9 years, car is parked on driveway in suburbia, i’m not a OC Member and my car has lots of mod’s. Guess I’m in one of those low risk areas.

It is clear due to the variety of experience and service that Club members are receiving from FJ, that a conversation needs to be had with FJ.  If FJ really value and take being the Club’s designated insurance company then the experience that Club members receive should be uniformly excellent and consistent.  (It is though quite possible that FJ do not take this Club designation seriously at all.)  Still, we need to find out.

Who from the Club leadership is going to call FJ and post back the findings here?

The next committee meeting is due to be held on Jan 29th, and will include a face to face discussion with a representative from Footman James - the concerns expressed here will be on the table. We will post the conclusions here.

Incidentally, the number of Club members taking insurance with FJ during 2010 is substantially up (in the order of 25%) on the numbers during 2009. The number is very approx 80 policies per month, including renewals and new business, as far as I can tell. But we do recognise that some members do not feel that they are being offered an acceptable deal.

This is excellent.

Just (quite literally) gone with them
Compared with REIS(Richard Egger)
Would’ve gone for the latter but for no courtesy car.
Mine is my only car so courtesy is a deal-breaker for me
Should things go pear-shaped you lot will be some of the first to know Stick Tongue Out

Just read some of the feed back on Footman James. As I told you all some time ago these people gave us a fantastic quote, hence we are now insured with them.Checked the policy and my wife has protected no claims, unlimited mileage, breakdown cover an access of about £200,they knowthe car is parked on the drive (stated on policy) and it was about £299 compared to £1000 with our insurers of 12 years. They told us due tothe personel accident claims, policies had risen quite a lot.As you can imagine we were more than pleased with Footman James…

Bitty and Lance,

Ta ta for now…

Having read a number of entries related to FJ, I still believe from experience that the value of a particular company cannot be judged on how cheaply they do a policy to suit your needs but in the quality and efficiency of their responses when something goes wrong, like an accident or a change in circumstances and you need them to act quickly and competently. FJ failed us just like another broker did some years ago. We might pay a little extra going directly to a big company - surprisingly not much by hitching up to the house insurance with Aviva - but we do get the quality of service which may be worth more than you pay for a cheap policy.

Pay peanuts and you get monkeys!

Happy and safe motoring!

Did this meeting take place as planned?  If “yes” then what is the feedback?

Well well well, Jan 12th to Feb 7th and a total change has happened.

Richard Eggar wont even quote because of problems they have had in my postcode. What the hell has that got to do with me, and why paint me black because my postcode covers some bad areas? So Richard Eggar you missed out on my money for covering a low mileage garaged with alarm much loved Eunos.

FJ £308.64p, payment on it’s way.

Once again reading feedback on FJ,all I can say is that I believe the underwiters are AON,who are massive, they are into football club sponsorship, (Man Uni.) I think, and are reputed to be a big player throughout this country and further a field. As we have stated before, although we have not made a claim, and hopefully won’t,their policy is excellent value for money, even if they would not cover me because of my points, but neither would many. The wife has got prot.no.claims,unlimited milege, just about everything else you can have,so as I have said in the past at present we arereally pleased with FJ…

The meeting on 29th Jan did take place. I have prepared a report to post here, but need to check the absolute accuracy of some of the factual points made. This is taking a little while - I will post as soon as I can. Meanwhile please be patient. No hidden agenda here - I just want to give you correct info.

Not quite accurate - Footman James is a trading name of AON Ltd, which is a subsidiary of AON Corporation - to quote from their web site:

Headquartered in Chicago, Aon Corporation is the leading provider of
risk management services, insurance and reinsurance brokerage and human
resources consulting and outsourcing.

In other words, they are insurance brokers. The policies they write for members are mostly, or wholly, written by Royal & Sun Alliance. They are, however, different from the policies written if people go directly to RSA.
